Team-Teaching Classes Utilize Little Theater Facilities Several new approaches to teaching English were pur- sued by the English Department. Many of YVest's English teachers enrolled in a linguistics course offered this year to the memhers of the Morton Wlest and East English De- partments. This informative class met every week on Tues- day evenings here at Xvest. Ur. Virginia Mcljavid from the lllinois Teachers' College Chicago South taught the two- and-a-half hour course. Although not required to enroll by the departments, twenty-nine teachers attended the course for graduate college credit, and ten teachers audited. The study of linguistics was also seen in a new approach to language in some of the freshman classes in English. During the first grading period, English was taught some- what like a foreign language with a linguistic study of grammar. Also in full swing this year were the team-teach- ing sophomore English classes under the leadership of Mrs. J. L. Morel, Mrs. L. S. Pesek, Miss L. C. Schechter, and Mrs. V. B. Sebek. By studying famous works such as Silas Marner and Julius Caesar, attending lectures and exhibits, and utilizing the newly developed facilities in the Little Theater, the selected sophomore students were involved in the first experiment of this type at West.
