Dr. W. l. Hutchison Coordinates Curriculum, Methods, Facilities As principal of Morton lvest, Dr. William l. Hutchison is concerned with diverse administrative duties. There are various problems that he faces in improving the curricu- lum, teaching methods, and facilities of the high school. Dr. Hutchison reviewed and took into careful consideration the recent recommendations offered by the North Central Evaluation Committee. Through this evaluation and the various state and national conferences which he attends, Dr. Hutchison is able to determine the special needs of Morton West and implement these evaluations into the program at Vllest. He constantly strives to improve the edu- cational opportunities and extra-curricular activities avail- able to the students during their four years at Morton. MR. R. K. KUCERA 5' DR. W. I. HUTCHISON Mr. R. K. Kucera Serves First Year as Assistant Principal In March of last year, Mr. R. K. Kucera assumed the position of assistant principal by taking the place of Dr. V. J. Cerveny who had become dean of Morton Junior Col- lege. Mr. Kucera had been in the Morton school system for fourteen years and was well prepared to meet the de- mands of his new job. As coordinator of student activities, the new assistant principal was favorably impressed with the enthusiasm shown by West students for extra-curricular activities. Feeling that these were a good supplement to Mortonis regular curriculum, he was pleased with the wide representation of students in all school activities and looked forward to seeing even more student participation.

DR. WALTER L. COOPER TOP ROW: Charles Janata, James C. Soper, George Nemec, George Prosch, Joseph Iablonski. BOTTOM ROW: Edward W. Chodl, Otto Pecha, Otto Oplatka. Dr. Cooper Applies Evaluation To His Administrative Duties Working in conjunction with the Board of Education and the administrators of the Morton High Schools, Dr. Walter L. Cooper efficiently and effectively fulfilled the role of superintendent of the district. As coordinator of the activities of the two high schools, he also worked to determine policies, budgets, and faculty selections. This year the Morton high schools were the host to the North Central Evaluating Committee. Their report was submitted to Dr. Cooper in the knowledge that he, through applica- tion of his superior ability, dedication, and experience as an administrator, would do everything possible to provide excellent educational opportunities for Morton students. Records of Teaching Applicants Reviewed by Board of Education The members of the Board of Education are active com- munity leaders elected by the voters of the district to serve three-year terms. This year the Board of Education gave approval to budgets for the district and to the adop- tion of new learning materials to improve the educational opportunities for Morton students. When credentials of teaching applicants were submitted by the school admin- istrators, the Board reviewed them before giving final ap- proval. Meeting once a month, the Board of Education en- deavored to make the Morton school system one represent- ing quality education and outstanding achievement.

KIUIQHWMDL Dr. Ondrus Selects Employees To Fill Business Staff Vacancies The role of business manager for the Morton District requires a man experienced in accounting and business matters. As administrator of the yearly budget for both high schools and the junior college, Dr. Joseph Ondrus kept records of all business transactions, planned building improvements, and ordered necessary classroom equipment. He was also responsible for filling any vacancies which occurred on the non-teaching staffs of Morton East, Morton 'West, and Morton Junior College. In such a demanding position, Dr. Ondrus has proven himself to be a very capable business administrator. Deans Secure Tutors and Jobs For Students With Special Need The major responsibility of the deans' office is to deal with students, teachers, and parents in regard to student problems. More time and effort are given by the deans, Miss E. Jahelka and Mr. F. L. Wilson, in helping students to resolve their difficulties than in actual disciplinary measures. With attendance as a major concern of the deans, they see that tutors or homework assignments are provided when prolonged absences occur. If a student is in financial need, they try to help him find a job and provide him with the necessary recommendations. Student aids assist our deans by collecting attendance cards and delivering messages throughout the school. MISS E. IAHELKA ' -7' 133' I
