CHEERLEADINC The freshman cheerleading squad, which was only recently established during the previous school year, has already become a great asset to Morton. The addition of the squad encouraged a greater number of freshmen and sophomores to attend the athletic functions. The girls, under the direction of Mrs. J. White and the other cheerleaders, learned the fundamental cheers and used them at all the main athletic events. The training received during their freshman year has provedito be a great advan- tage to those girls on the squad. They have been graduated to the junior varsity and varsity with the valuable experi- ence that many of the girls in previous years lacked. GIRLS' ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION This year a girl who desired to join the GAA needed only to come out for an activity to be considered a member. The organization offered a variety of athletic activities for the girls at Morton. The calendar included swimming and bowling in the fall, volleyball in the winter, and softball and badminton in the spring. The association also sponsored its annual all-school playnight and presented an honors banquet for its outstand- ing members. Advisors were Mrs. Okayama and Mrs. Rini. TOP ROW: J. Roti. THIRD ROW: K. CHEERLEADING .. . This year,s varsity and junior var- sity cheerleading squads held a very prominent position among the organizations of Morton. At the cheerleading summer camp the varsity won four first places and one second place during five nights of competition. The squads were also invited to several teas which were given by various schools on behalf of cheerleaders in the area. In March they attended a Worthwhile workshop which was held at Northern Illinois University. Besides participating in these functions, the squads practiced from two to four hours every Week. They also added swimming and wrestling to the list of sports events at which they cheered and were able to purchase new uniforms which they felt were essential to the uniformity and neatness of the squads.
