Varsity and Sophomore Golfers Take Sixth Place in Conference Coach D. Verdeyen's 1967 Varsity Golf Squad finished sixth in the Des Plaines Valley League Conference with a record of two wins and five losses. Coach Verdeyen, who has been coaching varsity golf for two years, relied most TOP ROW: R. Nemecek, P. Confort, D. Engelsman, R. Bangert, R. Lastovka, F. Heart, R. Moravec, C. Karabin. BOTTOM ROW: D. Zecca, N. Christensen, M. Pasqinelli, A. Winger, T. Keefe. heavily upon Bruce Cerveny, Ken Fron, and Jeff Malecek. Cerveny made his best effort against tough West Leyden while Fron made his best effort in the conference meet with a score of eighty-one. Malecek brought in a score of eighty- six in the district. ln the Des Plaines Valley District Meet held at White Pines Golf Course, Morton placed -sixth out of the eight competing schools. Taking first place at the district was East Leyden. The difficult course at White Pines is East Leyden's home course. 7 1

Freshman, Sophomore Baseball Teams Capture Third Position On the sophomore level, the Morton West Baseball Team did a fine job. The race was fierce in the Des Plaines Valley League, and at one time Morton was in a three way tie for first. This tie was broken after Morton lost its last two games and fell to third place. Outstanding on TOP ROW: M. McClure, C. Baldacci, R. Vojik, D. Darwin, G. Kakla, G. Poaliot, G. Blazek. THIRD ROW: G. Mc Intire, J. Kotak E. Sergo, K. Klimes, M. Ptak, M. Farnsworth, C. Soumar, J. Hode Brinlder, L. Rocco. BOTTOM ROW: R. Jacklin, B. Westhead, Coach Cundiff, N. Lucca, S. Jansto. Coach Cundiff's team were ,lim Sporleder, Al Lierman, Paul Parpet, Dave Brinker, and Bill Westhead. Also finish- ing in third place, Coach Hahn and Coach Martinis fresh- man team had a successful season. Their playing led to nine victories with only four losses and one tie game. The squad was sparked by the exceptional pitching and hitting of Gary Smith, who struck out fifty-six men and batted an average of .346g the fielding of Ken Klimesg and the hitting of Bill McClure. Zielinski, T. Novak, K. Saydel. TENNIS The netmen who participated in the 1967 season once again faced the frustrating problem of a lack of tennis courts on school grounds. As a result, the players were forced to practice at the Berwyn and Janura Parks. Coach C. L. Prazak, whose varsity squad took fourth place, said that he was pleased with that positiong for Larry 'X i ek Lffwizf.. , y Ohler was the only senior on the team. Competing at second and third singles, Larry and Greg Casaletto were outstanding. Sophomore Richard Pleva developed into the leading Morton player at the first singles. Coach Kulp's sophomore team members, hurt by the loss of Pleva, did their share to make the season a successful one. TOP ROW: J. Kotek, J. Schroeder, I. Paulin, J, Sisco, T.
