Nie- Sophomores Win All Except Cne While Frosh Gain in Experience Like many Falcon teams this year, the sophomore, swim team, coached by J. Broede, enjoyed an exceptionally fine season. The team ended in second place in the Des Plaines Valley Conference with only one loss. Karl Niemand excelled in the 100 yard freestyle. His brother, William, along with TOP ROW: D. Amato, G. Al Rosengard, a freshman, gave the team what it needed in the butterfly and individual medley events. Al was the league champion in the butterfly. Although the Freshman swimmers were not in a league, the boys gained needed experience in competition. The team did swim in eight meets and had a .500 average winning four and losing four. Varsity swimming coach f. Ellinger confers briefly with tankmen Buzz Calek and Jeff Mucha daring a meet. Off the board in a tack position, diver Steve Mucha, a sophomore who has worked his way up to the first string varsity squad, begins the first step in his double summersaalt. West Swimmers Bring Home Aurora East Invitational Trophy Again in 1968 Coach J. Ellinger has led the varsity swim team through another successful season. With an overall dual meet record of 10-3 and a 4-2 record in the Des Plaines Valley League, the Falcons placed second in the conference behind first place Hinsdale South. For the first time in the history of Morton West swimming, a trophy has been won by the Falcons. This feat was ac- complished hy Morton's first place finish at the Aurora East Invitational Meet held during the Christmas holidays. Seven of the eleven Morton West swim records were broken this year. The 200 yd. medley relay team of Gerry Kmen, George Patera, Rich Holouhek, and Mike Sweeney hroke the old record with a 1:51.5. Junior Dick Slad, proh- ahly the team's most outstanding swimmer, broke the 200 yd. free style record. He also broke school records in the 100 yd. free style with a :54.8 and the 400 yd. free style with a fl:24.6. George Malekovic broke the 200 yd. indi- vidual medley record while Tom Zimmerman broke the school record in the 100 yd. back stroke. The 400 yd. free style relay team, consisting of George Malekovic, Jeff Mucha Buzz Calek, and Dick Slad, set a new record of 3:44.4. Straining forward, baclfstroker Tom Zimmerman flies off the block. Tom holds the school record 'in the 100 yard baekstroke event.

Indoor Cindermen Place First ln Invitational and League Meet In his last year at Morton, Coach D. Suenram led his outdoor track team to a fifth place finish in the league with a four win-four loss record. Highlights of the spring season were the performances of Larry Tkach and Larry Cascio. ln the state meet, pole vaulter Larry Cascio tied for fifth place. Earlier, Cascio broke the league record fwith a 14' 3f4 vault. Although shot putter Tkach didnlt place in the state meet, he did break a school record with a 53' 7 heave. Under Morton's new varsity track coach, C. Busse, the indoor season was even more successful than last year's outdoor season. Keynoting the season was Morton's victory in the conference meet.
