With the gleam of a winnefs smile, George Malekovic accepts the congratulations of teammate Buzz Calek for winning the 200 yard individual medley. George and Buzz provided Morton with many high-scoring, first-second finishes in varsity competition. Competing in the 200 yard medley relay event at a home swimming meet, Mike Sweeney shoots off the lnlock in lane four as teammate Rich Holoubeh finishes his final length with a good time, etfiit OPP. AS In The frosh team led by Coaches T. J. Deizman and R. J. Coach J. O. Evans' sophomore grapplers had an excellent season with an overall record of ten wins and one loss and a conference record of six Wins and one lost. Snyder, Kozurek finished fourth in the league with a four win and three loss record and an overall record of nine wins, six losses, and one tie. Cited as the most valuable grappler was Ed Anderson. Varsity swimming coach f. Ellinger confers briefly with tankmen Buzz Calek and Jeff Mucha daring a meet. Off the board in a tack position, diver Steve Mucha, a sophomore who has worked his way up to the first string varsity squad, begins the first step in his double summersaalt. West Swimmers Bring Home Aurora East Invitational Trophy Again in 1968 Coach J. Ellinger has led the varsity swim team through another successful season. With an overall dual meet record of 10-3 and a 4-2 record in the Des Plaines Valley League, the Falcons placed second in the conference behind first place Hinsdale South. For the first time in the history of Morton West swimming, a trophy has been won by the Falcons. This feat was ac- complished hy Morton's first place finish at the Aurora East Invitational Meet held during the Christmas holidays. Seven of the eleven Morton West swim records were broken this year. The 200 yd. medley relay team of Gerry Kmen, George Patera, Rich Holouhek, and Mike Sweeney hroke the old record with a 1:51.5. Junior Dick Slad, proh- ahly the team's most outstanding swimmer, broke the 200 yd. free style record. He also broke school records in the 100 yd. free style with a :54.8 and the 400 yd. free style with a fl:24.6. George Malekovic broke the 200 yd. indi- vidual medley record while Tom Zimmerman broke the school record in the 100 yd. back stroke. The 400 yd. free style relay team, consisting of George Malekovic, Jeff Mucha Buzz Calek, and Dick Slad, set a new record of 3:44.4. Straining forward, baclfstroker Tom Zimmerman flies off the block. Tom holds the school record 'in the 100 yard baekstroke event.
