Cagers Place Second in Leagues Morton eager, Dan Bndenz, fights for possession of the ball with , , St. lgngizgngpponent, Bill Dunne, during Mortorfs first regional R-B game. Morton won by a score of 49-45. 'R ff , L . , The Falcon varsity basketball team had an outstanding season. It was involved in several exciting games which many people will never forget. The boys maintained an excellent team spirit which showed in their unity on the court. With an overall record of fifteen wins and seven losses and an eleven win-three loss conference record, they finished in second place in the Des Plaines Valley League. Every one of the players was outstanding. Probably the most vital men were all conference choice, Terry Alexa, who was the leading team as well as league scorer, and Art Louvar, a junior who had the best percentage of free-throw shots. Along with another all conference man, Skip Haak, these boys made up the core of the team. However, Fred Guenther, Dan Budenz, and Ed Buksas were also instrumental to the team's success. In the Christmas tournament Morton West beat Oak Park 78 to 59 but lost to Proviso West by a score of 58 to 69. Unfortunately the season ended abruptly when Morton lost to Riverside Brookfield in the second regional game by a score of 47 to 45. Coach J. Capron remarked that for his team the next game is always the most important game. This may be the philosophy which kept the varsity team hot.
