This yearls edition of the Fledgling again offered a fine opportunity for budding, creative writing talent to emerge and take flight. Staff members of this literary publication, chosen for their ability to analyze critically prose and poems, worked hard at editing works. After months of working the numerous contributions penned by members of the Morton West student body. the staff members turned the writings over to the two advisors, lVlrs. R. Baar and Mrs. C. Schrock, who made the final decisions as to which contributions should be included in the Fleflgling. The magazine was distributed to all English classes during May. TOP ROW: J. Brozovsl-ry, C. This year the main duties of the society were to provide tutors for students needing assistance in specific studies and to be the main sponsor of the annual honors banquet at which the new society candi- dates were initiated and other outstanding society students were honored with special awards. FALCON This year Mr. F. E. Studnick's FALCON staff continued to do a superior job of producing the bi- weekly issues of the school newspaper. These students de- voted many long hours to prepare each issue for publication. In the past, the staff had been composed of only those stu- dents enrolled in the journalism classes, but this fall, a new method was introduced to select additional staff members. The page editors and Mr. Studnick interviewed and hired freshman and sophomore students who were not enrolled in journalism but were interested in working on the FAL- CON. In this way more of the student body participated in the newspaperis publication. A popular feature added this year was a story in each issue recognizing an outstanding senior student. Also new this year was the selection of a new nameplate for the front page which was a student-created design of Morton Wesfs main entrance. Mr. F. E.
