Starting oft against Riverside-Brookheld, the var- sity was edged 3-2. This seemed to spark the Mus- tangs as they shut out Leyden 5-O in the following match. The taste ot victory was short-lived, however, as Morton went down in defeat by the identical scores ot 5-O at the hands ot Evanston and Niles. Coming back strong the racketmen downed Elm- wood Park 4-l. This could have been the beginning of a winning streak, but the next tive meets were catastrophes. Not being able to score a point, the Mustangs tell betore Highland Park, Proviso, Oak Park, New Trier, and Waukegan by the humble scores ot 5-O. This made the tinal record 2-8. Good form and co-ordination are exhibited in this backhand ghgf O

The best golf team in Morton's history ended their sea- son with a 9-1-1 overall record, finishing sixth in the state. This was quite a feat considering that Morton's Suburban League record was 5-1-1 and Highland Park, New Trier, and Waukegan, all in the Suburban League also placed in the state competition. Before going downstate how- ever, the linksters, paced by Ernie Kolak, Pat Dorgan, and Steve Nester, walked oFf with their second straight district crown. Looking back over the season, the Mustangs started off sensa- tionally, winning their first five contests. Included in these de- feats was Highland Park, second in the state. The Mustangs then proceeded to lose to New Trier and tie Waukegan, constituting their only loss and tie of the sea- son. Winning the next five games easily, the varsity golf squad came through with their final 9-1-1 mark. Ernie Kolak demonstrates his technique as P- DUFEIHI1, L Fayette, J. Kath, S. Nester, J. Massey, and Coach P. R. Pavlinek look on.
