The strongest Pony team in Morton history chalked up a spectacular undefeated season crushing all eight of their stubborn opponents. A comparable record has not been shovvn since 1929. Opening the season with a 57-6 non-conference victory over the Austin underclassmen, the Ponies coasted on to vvin after a 43-O half-time lead. Racking Waukegan with their tremendous running attack, the Frosh-Soph gridders romped again to a 43 7 win in the opening Suburban League tilt. The Pirates also proved to be no match for the Ponies as they vvere dumped 211-6. CatCl'tIr1Q t1re late in the tOUttl't quarter with a touchdown, the Ponies rallied to a 20-111 decision over New Trier in one of the hardest fought games of the season. ln their f1fth straight victory this season, the Sophs trounced Niles 33-O. On the short end of a 12-O score at half time because of fumbles, the Ponies retaliated with fifteen points in the third quarter edging Evanston 15-12. Against Highland Park, the Sophs repeated their strong performance by defeating the Little Giants 28 6 A 6 O victory over Oak Park in the seasons t1naIe clinched the Suburban League title for the Ponies. Arny Vesely, Pete Salerno, Pat Calahan, and Keith Michael made up the backheld for this outstanding Frogh Page 227
