Tomsa, P. Dvorak, A. Barta, M. Malnic, Nl. KOUfi, R. Reihel. SENIOR HONOR SOCiETY . . .The highest goal that any Morton student can achieve is membership in the Senior Honor Society. In addition to maintaining a high scholastic standing, membership is limited to those stu- dents vvho have shown an exceptional scholastic stand- ing and possess the qualities ot good character, leader- ship, and service. Elections are held annually in the spring, giving the student body and faculty an opportunity to select outstanding students for membership. In order to be eligible students must rank in the upper third ot their class, and ot these only tltteen per cent of the senior class and tive per cent of the iunior class are admitted. The organizations social activities include teas held each semester tor the newly initiated members and, ot course, the traditional Splash Party. SECOND ROW: R. This year the Junior Honor Society ioined with the Senior Honor Society in the presentation of the Nine- teenth Annual Scholastic Honors Banquet on Thursday evening, May 2l. At this time, Morton students gained vvell-earned recognition tor eltorts and high scholastic standing throughout the year. The first and second semester otticers from Mor- ton East vvere: Bob Knupp and Allan Barta, chairmen, Laurie Lokay, vice-chairman, Joyce Orszula and Jean- ette Demkovich, secretaries, and Allan Barta and Ed Formanek, treasurers. The Junior Honor Society is an organization created to provide a scholastic obiective toward which the underclassmen may strive. Among the outstanding qualities possessed by the members are scholarship, leadership, character, and service. A member of the sophomore class having maintained an average of ninety or above in his maiors is eligible for membership in the Junior Honor Society. This average must have been main- tained for two or three semesters, and the student must have a passing grade in all his minors. This organization undertakes such proiects as placing names on the honor scrolls, sending representatives to the grammar schools of the Morton area to acquaint graduates with Morton, and the annual supervision of the Honors Banquet. They also send out the Congratulating Cards informing the students their names have been placed on the Scroll. During the first semester, the faculty chooses those of the Page 221 SEATED: A. Beside maintaining a high average, the faculty must consider leadership, character, and service. After an election, about five per cent of the sophomore class is ini- tiated ata ceremony where membership cards are presented to the new members. During the first semester the otticers were: Lois Hlavaty, president, Robert Knupp, vice-president, Lois Byerly, secretary, and Allan Barta, treasurer. All of these students are from Morton East. Those ofticers from Morton West were: Joseph Bartos, president, Jeanette Meyer, vice-president, Sharon Trichman, sec- retary, and Victoria Legner, treasurer. This organization works along with the Senior l-lOn0r Society in planning the Honors Banquet. At this banquet, an award is given to the outstanding iunior boy and girl. This ig one of the most outstanding highlights during the year for both the Junior and Senior Honor Societies.
