QVQIOPGCJ f!1rongA Sporfs Cfivifies Mr. J. H. Seaholm watches with a critical eye as the members practice one of the techniques of speed skating. R. Talpai, P. Katric, R. Teglia, N. Machean, Mr. J, H. Seaholm, A. Tesar. SPEED SKATING . . . Winter, with its frigid weather, is not accepted with a great deal of enthusiasm by most people, but there is a group that looks forward to it. While the greater part of the population is content to go into some form of hibernation, the Speed Skating Club members are skimming over the ice. They relish the cold because for them it presents an opportunity to demonstrate the skating talents they have acquired. This is made possible at various derbies among which is the Silver Skates Derby held each year. Mr. J. H. Seaholm directs the members in this growing sport. FENCING CLUB... Fencing was originally prac- ticed as a means of settling disputes, but the purpose of the Morton Boy's Fencing Club is to teach the members the fundamentals of fencing as a sport. The advanced members receive in- structions in the epee Cdueling swordj. All of the members enioy this form of competition involving personal skills. Fencing as a sport helps to promote agility, develops muscular control, and gives to the fencer good bodily poise. The ofhcers of the Fencing Club were: President, Alexander Prokop: Vice-president, Rich Mikulecky, Secretary and Treasurer, Cliff Pliml. The able advisor to this club is Mr. R. C. Reiner. Under the guidance of Mr. R. C. Reiner, these boys are be- coming proficient in the art of fencing. BACK ROW: R. Mikulecky, A. Prokup, J. Sienkiewicz, J, Grade, C. Last, P. Schleitwiler, R. Fe.-v people realize the skill and coordination required to perform successfully on a trampoline or to do strenuous exercises on a tum' bling mat. The Boys' Tumbling Club does not compete in interscholastic meets, and the only opportunity the students have to see the members perform their intri- cate stunts is at the Physical Education Exhibition. The sport is more dangerous than it appears, and the possibility of iniury is great. A twist or landing in the Wrong Wray may result in a bad injury. However, through careful training in fundamental skills, iniurieg are eliminated. Coach O. J. Kudrnovsky aids the boys in improving their techniques. Skillful Oumblers enjoy their sport. pci., 7, K, Helvler T. Bohan D Peluso. gon 2: PV f,'.C,',,lliarfs, A P':?:r:, E. Darflinge' J. England Pgf. Z P Lid, G Dvofalf C Zei .-.sk R. The tumbling club was created out of a desire for healthful recreation and interesting activ- ity. lt brings together a group of girls who are interested and talented in tum- bling in order to further their ability. The girls, who have had to pass r'gio tests in order to become members. are constantly learning new skills and sharing this graceful talent by performing at school functions such as the Homecoming Parade, P.E. demostrations, parties, and banquets. The ease and grace with whicl' they perform their rout'nes make tum' bling appear easy, but the sport involves plenty of practice. The club contrbutes tc such worthwhile organizations as the scholarship league and the Welfare Corn- mittee. The ofhcers were: President, Lean- dra Pietrzak: Vice-president. June Kuba- ialc: and Secretary. Christine Re'der. Vliss R. E. Berman is the club's advisor. Practice makes perfect, say the members of the Girls' Tumbling Club. TCP: Lef' 'C 'Ighf F. Lands' '.'
