Junior and senior boys who are eager to serve their community and school are welcome to ioin the club. The boys serve at banquets and, along with the boys from the Junior Council, are always on duty whenever a program is presented in the auditorium. Their biggest under- taking tor the year vvas the Father and Son Banquet. Under the leadership ot their advisor, Mr. H. A. Meeker, the members planned with enthusiasm this dinner tor all Morton boys and their fathers. The food which they served appealed to the appetite ot all who attended. The Council members, who served at the Mother and Daughter Banquet, invited the mem- bers ot the Junior-Senior Girls' Club to return the honor by serving at the Father and Son Banquet. The boys did an out- standing iob in planning tor the program. This year's speaker was Doctor Arthur Siml, who is Page IBI the father of Artie Siml, Presi- dent ot the Senior Council at Morton West. The olticers tor this year were: Bob Knupp, President: Ben Nemec, Vice- presidentg Dom Marsiglio, Sec- retary, and Chet Rondlnella, Treasurer at Morton East. WRITERS' CLUB . . . Since its Hrst pub- lication, TRIAL FLIGHTS has been a supplement to the English Department curriculum. Written entirely by the students of Morton, it is edited and published by the members of the Writers' Club. After careful study and great consideration, they select the compositions to appear in TRIAL FLIGHTS. The club advisor, Miss M. A. Diez, supervises their vvork, adding her ovvn valuable opinion. After months of hard vvork, the members vvait eagerly for the first copies of TRIAL FLIGHTS to come oFf the press. They then submit them to the teachers and students. When they receive their copy, the students go through the book page by page, hoping to find some of their vvork. The omcers for this year vvere: Dorothy Bursik, President, Linda Grazulis, Vice-president, Mary Ann Rizzato, Secretary, and Michael Kouri, Treasurer. ff iv The busy members of the Writers' Club work hard to produce an issue of TRIAL FLIGHTS that Morton can be proud of. STANDING: W. Fenwick, M. Straka, M. Kouri, SITTING: J, Mitty, M. Rizzato, Miss M. A. Diez, G. Johnson, D. Bursik, L. Grazulis. Ppreciafion anal expression The members of the Weekly Club are often found discussing good journalistic procedures. ON CHAIR: A. Reda, C. Kozakos. ON COUCH: C. Janovsky, J. Kempski, G. Sebesta, M. Griffin, S. Kovarik, C. Sloboda. Page I83 WEEKLY CLUB. . . A large number of Morton students have an enthusias- tic interest in the field of journalism. Consequently, our school paper, THE MORTONIAN WEEKLY, is one of the best, most complete, high school papers put out by a student body. There are, of course, many problems which arise in the publication of a good newspaper. It is the purpose of the club advisor, Miss M. Block, to give the members a greater insight on the running of a newspaper, ag vvell as to discuss the numerous tech- niques found to be the most etffective. The members also become more fa- miliar vvith the skills necessary to the nevvs vvriter. They learn hovv to write copy for a limited space, they develop the art of presenting the facts in a neutral point of vievv, or, in the case of an editorial, hovv to state their cause in such a vvay that the reader will be stirred by its con- text, in short, the members of The club are taught the principles of goool journalism.
