THE TEACHER Stand tall Hold up a regal head You may not have fine clothes Nor own a downy bed. TATE SCHOOL Tate High School, named for its founder, Professor Iames M. Tate, a Civil War Veteran, was first erected near the present site of the Gonzalez Methodist Church. ln 1916 the first of the buildings now in use was constructed. Although Professor Tate was living when the school was named for him, he never taught in it. From the original little red school house, Tate has expanded until it now includes eight buildings which serve eight hundred pupils and thirty teachers. To the main build- ing an auditorium and several classrooms were added in 1926. Another annex was con- structed in 1938. The dairy was built in 1940. Two years later the agricultural building was completed. A cannery for community use was built in 1944. The new lunch room with a seating capacity of two hundred forty was erected a year later. At the present time a new grammar school building, consisting of seventeen rooms, is under construction.
