F. Addington From a painting By Jim True Mr. Addington, a native of Scott County, attended Gate City High and graduated from Emory and Henry College in 1922 with an A.B. He then earned his masters degree from the University of Virginia, and was principal of the Clinchport Elementary and High School in 1922-23. The following year, he went to Lakeworth, Florida where he taught math. Then, Mr. Addington came back to Wise County and served as principal of Pound High School from 1924 to 1930. He was princi- pal of Wise High from March 1, 1930 until the new High School was opened in 1953. Since then he has been chief administrator of the new J. J. Kelly High School here in Wise . In addition to his high school work, Mr . Addington has taught classes at Radford College, Em- ory and Henry, and Clinch Valley College. He is the author of numerous short stories and arti- cles, and the following books: HISTORY OF THE VIRGINIA COAL AND IRON COMPANY, HISTORY OF WISE COUNTY, LITTLE FID- DLER OF LAUREL COVE, SUGAR IN THE GOURD, and TIP OFF TO WIN. GOOD-BY MRS. TAYLOR Mrs. Taylor came to us ten years ago from the beautiful islands of Hawaii where she had taught for four- teen years. The following week at home the Indians shut out the defending Co-champions, Clintwood Greenwave, by a score of 6-0. After being behind at the half, the Indians came back strong to down Ervinton 20-7. The next week on September 27 the Indians carried a perfect record to Applachia, where they suffered their first defeat, 12-7, in the final two minutes of the game. On the 4th of October the Indians slaughtered Coeburn 27-7 at their homecoming. The following week, on October 11, the Kelly team defeated Jonesville 28-8 in a nonconference battle. On October 18, a huge crowd gathered here at Wise for the annual Homecoming game and festivi- ties . A parade led off the evening, and Miss Rebecca Hart was selected as Homecoming Queen. The game --a 14-0 defeat over Powell Valley. Later in a game that could have decided the championship, the Indians suffered a 7-6 defeat at the hands of the Gate City Blue Devils . Finally at the last home game the Indians defeated Pound 20-0 and closed out the season by crushing Haysi 33-0 in a game played on the field in Clintwood.
