This year two members of the chapter are officers in the newly-organized Black Diamond Federation; Margaret Barnard, president, and Edda Webb, historian. The goal of our organization is to help improve personal, family, and community living now as in the future. Toward New Horizons is our motto. They then hit a rocky stretch, losing three hard fought contests. The Kelly Indians were expected to be strong at the beginning of the season since they had eighteen returning lettermen. In the first game they won 7-6 in a hard fought battle with arch -rivals Norton. The Indians then traveled to Ervington and made a terrific surge to win by 12-7. Pennington was the next to bow before Kelly in a 6-0 battle. Appalachia, the district champions, handed the team its first defeat by a score of 7-0. The Indians then traveled to Powell Valley and were defeated 18-6 by the Vikings ' great passing attack. Then going to Coeburn, the Indians lost 6-0 on a bad break. The Indians redeemed themselves by de- feating Jenkins 19-0. The Green Waves of Clintwood defeated the Indians on a despera tion pass in the last fifty seconds and handed Kelly High a bitter 6-0 defeat. An upset was handed the Indians by thd Pound Wildcats who threw a damper into homecoming activities with a 20-13 defeat. The season was concluded with a loss to Jonesville when the score was 19-14 in an exciting game played on a very cold playing field. The future looks bright since many lettermen are returning to be aided by members from this season ' s championship J. THE JUNIOR VARSITY The J.V ' s, having the advantage of the good coaching of Mr. Lester, as well as good talent, have had an excellent season. Winning seven out of eight games gave them the year ' s championship. The other high team Clintwood, lost two games putting the Kelly J. V ' s in the lead. The high scorers were halfback, Brownie Ashley with 50 points and fullback, Lynn Craft with 42. Looks like we have some stars for the next year ' s Varsity.
