Our teaching staff has grown from two elementary teachers and two high school teachers in the year 1899 to thirty in 1956 with an assistant principal and a full- time secretary. Since 1904, when our school was Gladeville College with C. Y. Chapman as President, there have been 13 presidents and principals. Mr. L. F. Addington became principal in 1930.

FRANCES GILLEY We, the Arrowhead Staff dedicate I the 1956 Arrowhead to Mrs. Frances Gilley who not only has dedicated her efforts and time to the development of better student leaders but whose guidance and understanding we shall never forget . MR. STERLING GILLIAM We also dedicate the 1956 Arrow - head to Mr. Sterling Gilliam whose efforts have made our Senior year a more interesting and enjoyable one and whose friendship and service are deeply appreciated .

Principal 1956 MR. L. F. ADDINGTON Mr. Addington was born in Scott County. After completing high school at Midway and Gate City, he went to Emory and Henry College and did graduate work at University of Virginia. After college, Mr. Addington taught his first school at Clinchport, Virginia; his second at Lakeworth, Florida, and then came to Wise County in 1924, where he was principal at Pound school. Here he taught the third grade with only two pupils. On March 1, 1930 he came to Wise as Principal. Mr. Addington has taught summer schools at Radford College and Emory and Henry College. In addition to his school activities, his short stories have been published in Esquire, American Prefaces, Pageant, Jack Jill, and many juvenile and church magazines. This year he wrote The Story ot Wise County and became Executive Director of the Wise County Centennial. ™ ' — - —
