Larry received $10 which was one of the top forty in the State. David received $1 and a certificate. Lona Wharton and Lawrence Rhodes were participants from Kelly High in the All-State band. STUDENT PARTICIPATION IN GOVERNMENT The Student Council is composed of 4 main officers, elected by the student body, and the President of each home room. Distributive Education, introduced this year, is a class in salesmanship and retail- ing. The last, introduced this year, is a school- business-community co-operative program in which Seniors taking this course get the fundamentals of office training in the class- room and work in offices afternoons and Saturdays. In the first game of the season the Indians defeated the Norton Black Raiders 14-0. The following week the Indians defeated Appalachia 40-6. On Sept. 17, the Indians invaded the Tigers of East Stone Gap with a score of 25-7. The Indians met the Coeburn Blue Knights on Sept. 25 and defeated them 38-6. On Oct. 2 the Indians journeyed to Pennington Gap. The final score Wise 25- Pennington 0. Wise then defeated Gate City 33-13, Pound 13-0, and Big Stone Gap 19-7. The final game of the season was Oct. 28. The Indians scored the winning touch- down in the final 3 minutes against the Clintwood Green Wave to win the District Championship by a score of 6-0.
