H. S. will soon be ended, do hereby will the following: Laura Amos, her desk in the Senior room to Thomas DePriest, ability to make A on deportment to her sister Ginny , and her patrol belt to anyone who has a temper. Clarence Baker, his ability to make A on deportment to Douglas Hylton, and to make good grades to anyone that needs them. Bobby Wheatley, his ability to talk in chemistry class to any unlucky student who takes it, and to make Miss Wolfe mad, to Bob Roberts. Donald Barker, his ability to make good grades to Douglas Hylton, to get along with all the teachers to Maudie Johnson, and his position on the football team to Dedrick Falin. Ralph Perry, his ability to tell jokes to Coach Asbury, Cordwood , position on the football team to Gene Arnold, the right to visit zero room at noon to Douglas Hylton. Willie Salyers, his position as bus driver to Billy Elam, ability to make good in bookkeeping to Willie Ray Boggs. Creed Bruce, his position on the football team to Harold Hawkins, and on the basketball team to Sam Ray Elam, and to make 95 in English to Gene Arnold. Eliza Rose Sutton, her flirting ability to Barbara Plowman, not that she needs it at all, her fun in Norton to Betty Jane, Janet, Mary Katherine and Jean Roberts. Burns Roberson, his ability to make oral reports under Mrs. Ferry to Joe Fugate, and his position as bench warmer in basketball to George Roberts. Nancy Carroll Hopkins, her ability to flirt to Ruth Roberson, and position as Business Manager of the Arrow to Nancy Dale. Lorene Dale and Loretta Lawson, their positions as typists to Willie Ray Boggs and Phyllis Parsons, and banking and counting the school ' s money to Lois Ann Orr and Frances Graham. Lorene leaves her height to Joe Fugate. Dorothy Sue Jessee, her position on the Arrowhead to her sister, Peggy, and her good grades to Douglas Hylton. Junior Short, his seat and all school equipment to any Junior that will have it. Hercel Stallard, his ability to sleep with his eyes open to any poor Junior that needs it. Amarylis Dotson, her position as captain on the basketball team to Rita Joe Fugale, and all her other worthwhile possessions, except Sam, to Irma Bevins, Nancy Dale, Ruth Roberson, and Rita Rivers. Alice Kate Wilson, per position as cheerleader to Nancy Scott, as secretary of the Senior class to Reita Rivers, since she did her work so efficiently in the Junior Class. Mary Ann Andrews, her ability to make C on deportment to Irma Bevins, to slip home early (and get caught) to Velma Wheatly, and to always manage to eat candy in study hall to Nancy Craft. Joe Roberts, gives to anybody and everybody nothing because everything he has will not be desired by anyone and nobody should want to follow in his footsteps. Belva Stallard and Viola Leho, their ability to be funny and also wise to Betty Jane Gilliam and Hazel Wheatly, and bookkeeping ability to Dave Harton and Everett Cantrell. Mayo Beverley, her place in the offce at sixth period to Nancy Craft, ability to get out of study hall to get cakes to Jean Dale, and to get married, to Lois Ann Orr and Frances Graham. Sonny Carter, his ability to get along with Miss Barr to Douglas Hylton, his height to Harold Hawkins, position as end in football to Thomas DePriest, and his love of women to Bob Roberts. Joe Harlan, his jovial manner to Jack Andrews, height to George Barnett, and social standing (almost lying) to Billy Beverly. Betty Fugate, her place as cheerleader to Jean Roberts, cause she ' s an expert on the vocal chords, and to make sompin outa nuthin to Eula Snodgrass. Eileen Bolling and Minnie Johnson, their great sense of humor to Willie Ray Boggs and Douglas Lawson, positions as Circulation Managers to Velma Wheatly and La Rue Collins, and ability to skip classes to the whole Junior Class. Walter Elliott, his position on the football team to Ray Kennedy, weight to Billy Collins, and the ability to select a good-looking girl to Gene Plowman. Well, I think my girl is good-looking. Hubert Berry, his position on the Arrowhead to Jack Andrews, Mimeographer to anyone who has enough energy to turn a crank, and his ability to break films to Bill Moore. Wise, Virginia January 28, 1958 Dear Junior, Just got back from New York where I am personal secretary to Mr. Macy. Decided to look up my old classmates of ' 48. Well, what do you think about Byron Elliott ' s becoming President of the United States, Joe Harlan ' s winning th e Nobel Prize for his poetry and Hubert Berry ' s being elected National President of the Kiwanis Club? Maybe we were ' t such a dumb class after all! I saw on Bobby Wheatley ' s sport page of the Wise News Sentinel (edited by Betty Fugate) that Creed Bruce, all-American for four years, is now Coach at Notre Dame. Amarylis Dotson Elliott is coaching the all-American Girls team while her husband, Walter Sam, head of Dixiana Coal Corporation, is in Wise. Anne Tieche is Home Economics teacher in Norton. Many of the girls are living happily married lives. Nancy Hopkins, now Mrs. Kennedy, is living in Lexington where Brent is teaching at V. M. I. Lorene Dale has become the wife of Admiral Hoyt Bentley of the U. S. Navy, and they are living in Washington, D. C. Donald Barker and his wife Maudie are living next door to them— Don is back in the Navy, too. Loret ta Lawson Spradlin is living out in the wilds of Wyoming, where her husband, Ben, is a forester. Someone said that Jerry Mullins is making his home out there too. Mary Ann Andrews recently became the bride of Freddie Sta I lard and they have left Wise. Minnie Johnson Hylton and her husband, Junior, are very proud of their little boy and girl. Jack Steffy and his wife, the former Mayo Beverly, are settled in their little home here in town. Beulah Woody is famous for the pies she makes for her husband. I called long distance yesterday and guess whom I recognized the operator to be? No other than Eileen Bolling!! I had lunch with her at Willie Salyer ' s new diner. She told me that Belva Stallard and Kathryn McDilda were nurses under Laura Amos who is surgical doctor at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Will wonders never cease? Sonny Carter is truant officer but still spends most of his time at Joe Robert ' s pool room. O. M. Vicars has finished high school and is loafing around town. Eliza Rose is still running from Wise to Norton. Kyle Easterling is manager of Watson Mullin ' s Store in the suburbs of Wise. Dorothy Sue Jessee was at home — she has been teaching in Richmond. She said that Alice Kate, Ava Beverly, and Alpha Gilliam held office jobs in Richmond and that Hercel Stallard is about to open an art school there. Viola Leho is Business Administrator of Saks Fifth Avenue. Clarence Baker and Burns Roberson are engineers under Ralph Perry. Here ' s wishing you continued success in your carpenter ' s work. It seems that the class of ' 48 has shown the spirit of Wise High in its achievements. When you come to visit me, we will talk over old times. Your old classmate, OPAL MULLINS. P. S.
