OFFICE AIDES The office aides afford our school many personal services we could not otherwise have. They answer the office phones, deliver messages, collect the daily attendance, and greet visitors coming to Whittier, to mention just a few of their duties. Our aides maintain a B average, good attendance and present themselves in a most favorable manner. SEATED, L-R: Jeanette Green, LaDonna Ellis. STAND¬ ING, L-R: Martha Walton, Tami Blankenship, Arleen Kobayashi, Kristi Griffith, Koral Ponton, Rhonda Hen- rikson, Ellen Conrad. GUIDANCE AIDES The aid position is a privileged one and aides must set a good example to other students in their personal conduct and in their school work. Good grades are important and aide ' s personal conduct must be courteous and respectful. Aides must give up his her non-academic elective to be an aide. The aides run errands, answer phones, and do minor clerical work. They are a tremendous help to administrators, counse¬ lors and secretaries and a real benefit to the school. L-R: Lori Moon, Mike Maines, Suzanne Jibeault, Maria De Leon, Leslie Efird. L-R: Scott Hydrick, Mike Maines, Richard Garrett, Marc Friedman. STANDING: Ryota Yoshimura, Les Ferguson, Miss Morris. BAND The concert band is the most advanced band at Whittier and repre¬ sents the school at all public perform¬ ances. Concert band is an elective subject for seventh and eighth grade students who meet the necessary quali¬ fications. Those students with previous instruction on a band instrument in elementary school are eligible for the concert band. The intermediate band is a stepping stone to concert band. The students in the intermediate band learn the fundamentals of playing in a band and study various musical styles and techniques. Previous training is necessary to enroll in the band, which is open to seventh and eighth grade students. The Whittier concert band has always strived to achieve the highest musical standards possible. With its membership of 28 students the Whittier string pro¬ gram ranks as one of the largest in the country for intermedi¬ ate level. The group is divided up into two classes: one class, which is geared toward more advanced students; and the other, which is designed for students who have had less experience on their instruments. Both classes combine to perform at school concerts and PTA programs. The advanced group has the additional privi¬ lege of performing with the Falls Church High School string ensemble at its concerts, the most important of these is the District Festival on March 26.
