Second-year J.C. L.'ers teel like protessionalsvvhen it comes to Latin Club activities, tor they are not walking untried paths. These pros decorate tor the Latin banquet and have the privi- lege ot lording over the lowly slaves. An Emperor and Empress are chosen from their group each year to reign over the banquet. Many Latin II members will attend the state J.C.L. con- vention in Chapel Hill and the national convention in Ken- tucky this year. Last year a group ot second-year stu- dents entertained at the state con- vention with a dance. Freshmen entertain at Latin Banquet. One of these is being a slave at the annual Roman banquet in the spring. Boys and girls, wearing a short servant's tunic, carry out their masters' orders. These range from doing acrabatics to singing solos. For three days after they are sold, they work tor their owners. Freshmen are chosen every year to present a dance feature at the banquet. This year's dance theme was a salute to the Nine Muses, who were depicted on a mural backdrop with their horse, Pegasus. Sixty-seven Latin l J.C.L.'ers have two new experiences beckoning them: attending the N.C. J.C.L. Convention in Chapel Hill in March, and attending the National Convention at Bowling Green, Kentucky. Those whose grades recommend them will receive a boost from the club treasury. It is no wonder that Latin l students tind their participation in Cognoscamus one ot the highlights ot the year.
