That music heeds a deep interest for many of the students is shown by the large group participating in band, chorus, and the smaller M 3 groups known as Gleefs, Mapletones, and X V Pep Band. Excellent leadership of Mr. J Howard Sandlund and Miss Cora Alyce Santee and hard work and hours of practice have en- abled the members of these groups to bring ' ' ' ' added prestige to our school through the par- kel' J' Heeren' D' Snodgrass' ticipation in the NCIC Festival, held in DeKalb, November 14, and in district and state contests in the spring. The pep band not only added spirit to the weekly pep meetings of the students but provided entertainment for the fans at the half time dur- ing the basketball season. The music department added to the Christmas festivals by presenting the program at the Columbia Club Vespers and a program for the public and student body. Music students participated in many activities such as the solo and ensemble recit- al on February 16 which prepared for the contest, that was held on February 28. A spring band and vocal concert was held on March 10 . On March 20, the GHS band went on tour to Yorkville, a school near Chicago, for an exchange concert. On April 23 and 24, the popular operetta Oklahoma was presented and it was enjoyed by everyone who saw it as well as by all participating in it. The band finished out their year with an instrumental concert on May 8. All the members who participated in any form of music this year have had fun and gained experience that will long be remembered. . ,V X1 3 r v -. LEFT TO RIGHT- R Seei J O'Bryan, K.
