The play is of great uniqueness because of no scenery, only a few proper- ties. The first act, a general outline of the history of the town, Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, told about the character of the citizens, the Gibbs and Webb families, beginning at breakfast and go- ing through one entire day in the lives of these good people. The second act Concerned the love af- fair of young George Gibbs and Emily Webb, and finally the moving wedding scene. In the third and final act the audience was led to a cemetery on the hill, where the townspeople were patiently await- ing, not judgment but greater understanding. ln Came the bride who wished to live again with her memories. The stage manager showed her how impossible and how futile ' ' of life itself unfolded in these short minutes of the play, Our Town. Stage Manager Dr. Gibbs . . Mrs. Gibbs . This year's band began its work with marching routines at several of the home football games. The band and chorus were both represented at the NCIC Music Festival on November I6 in Ottawa. The conference band and chorus rehearsed throughout the day and gave a concert that night. The Christmas Program on December 16 included a concert by the band and chorus. On February 6 tryouts for vocal competition were held: and on Friday, February 28, the music department gave an assembly program for the student body in preparation for District Contest. The solo and ensemble contest was then held on March l. On March 29 the Mapletones and the GllS Band traveled to District Contests. The entrees receiving a superior rating attended state contests on April I8-IQ. The music department finished a successful year with spring concert on April 25. Due to the faithful work of the vocal instructor, Miss Cora Alyce Santee, and the toil of the new band director, Mr. Howard Sandlund, enjoyment and pleasure were given to GHS this year in the field of music.
