Mrs. Abigail Fortitude Abbott, a widow of 30, because of financial difficulties, decides to take an old Pointer College scholarship, given to anyone named Abigail Fortitude. This upsets her daughter, Susan, very muchg for who ever heard of a sophomore girl having a freshman mother? Problems arise when all the boys fall for Mother, and Mother and Professor Michaels, the Zoology teacher who is the idol of all the girls--especially Susan, fall for each other. Riot breaks out when the stern dean and Susan walk in on the professor and Mother in the midst of a love scene. Love fails later when Mother and Susan find the good, dear, kind professor has given them both the same kind of book--a book of love poems. More color is added by Bobo, Sue's adoring boy friend, and the rest of the students. After many compli- cations and laughs, everything turns out well with Susan, the professor, and Mother one happy family. Mother..... Susan...... Bobo....... Dean Gillingham . . Judy Primmer . . . . They have never been beaten in their profes- sional bouts. Best of luck to you two. In the last 25 years many successful trips to the Moon have been completed. Some of our former classmates have made their homes there. Russel Imel and Burton Gramling make red wigs for all the bald moonmen. Bernice Van- Vooren is chief cook and bottle washer at Jupiter janice's Place, a real gone coffee shop run by Janice Shoemaker. Her cousin, Dorothy Shoemaker, man- ages the help and sees that everything runs smoothly. Gerald Vermeulen, Dan Oberle, Bill Klavon, Francis McAvoy, and Ronnie Swanson operate light houses on the dark side of the moon. Judy Grit- man owns a fashionable hotel-resort especially for the weary travelers arriv- ing on the Vermost Airlines which com- mutes between the Moon and Mars. Ruth Williams, Sharon Wright, and Sharon Roselieb are hostesses on these planes. Congratulations to Harold johnson and Eldon Williams for successfully climb- ing the highest mountain on the Moonl Also, thanks to Norman Carlson for making the first flight to the Moon which made all this progress possible. Back to Earth, again--Penrod Sundeen has just replaced Paul Garrity as head of the FBI. Judy Primmer, a Paris fashion expert, says the latest fashions are to be coon-skin coats for the gents and k.nee length skirts for the gals. It'll never work, Judell Marjorie Kissell, Aleta Ernst, Diane Anderson, and Betty Schurvinske live at the North Pole and make fur coats for the Eskimos who live in the coastal regions of Antarctia. They have employed the '122' McKenzie-Peel Ship Lines, Inc. to transport the furs to the right places. Eleanor Clifton owns a chain of pizza palaces in Sweden. They're doing so well, she is thinking of opening another branch in japan. If you happen to be traveling through the Belgian Congo, you probably would see Stephen Bernier, Don Egan, and John Ristau hunting for the ancestors of the Tsetse fly. These famous explorers have hunted the world over for clues, but, as yet, they have had no luck. You might see Frances Johnston there, alsog she is catching orangutans to be exibited all over the United States. George Walker has been appointed the U. S. 's ambassador to Russia. Carolyn Whitmyer is the head of the U. S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. Lynnette Urs is her pri- vate secretary. Drs. jim Holevoet, john Menzenburg, Howard Miller, Clyde Neumann, and Tom Richter who established a clinic in the center of Death Valley have patented their latest discovery--overhead water sprinkling units which are suspended from the surrounding mountains. They are now building a hospital for the grow- ing population that is moving into the area to cultivate the rich soil. Going East we find that Myrna Turner was voted the favorite house mother at Yale University, and Donna Nauyalis received recognition from the New York Art appreciation Society for her great contributions to modern art. Now we know what Alice will have to report to the' alumni tomorrow. Our class has really been a good one. Let's hope the next twenty five years are just as profitable. HL V- bib 4 '? Scene from Varsity Speech play. iid' 'I' 'A'5 K MUSIC The Music Department of GHS has been a very active one during the l956-57 year. It has presented much pleasure both to the stu- dents participating and to the residents of the community. During this year, ,the department was made up of the band, chorus, the Maple- tones, The Gleefs, and the Pep Band. Miss Cora Alyce Santee was again in charge of all the vocal activities while Mr. Robert James directed the instrumental part. During the football season, the band and baton twirlers presented many enjoyable half- time shows at all the home football games. This added a good deal to the spirit of the sport. The baton twirlers did an especially nice job in this work and diligently practiced their routines. The one real big event of the year was the North Central Illinois Conference Music Fes- tival that was held in our own Jr. High Gym on November l7. The 300 voice student chorus was directed by Mr. Lloyd Pfautsch, and the 200 piece band was under the direction of Mr. David Bennett. After practicing all day, the group presented an outstanding evening concert. The highlight of the evening was the combined number, Glorious, Mighty Is The Land. Mrs. Dale Sieben Accompanied the chorus. Later in the season, the chorus presented a very inspiring Vesper Service in the Congre- gational Church on December 16. The num- bers presented were: Jesu Bambino, Carol of the Drum, Stille Nacht, ln Excelsis Gloria, and'The Twelve Days of'Christmas, Also featured at the service were the fifty two Mapletones who sang two numbers, Jesu, Joy of Man's Desirin , and Lullaby for Marys on. On March 28, a musical production Count Ten was presented. This play was written by Miss Cora Alyce Santee and Mr. Clyde Walters. The main stars of this musical comedy were Bill White, Clyde Neumann, Susan Fergeson, Helen Rash, Judy Brokaw, Myrna Turner, Judy Ague, Keith Peterson, and Walt Henry. The proceeds from the play went to the organ fund. Later this spring, the Mapletones went to District Contest and did very nicely. On the band's list of activities might be the recital of solos and ensembles, which was held in February. Then in March, the group presenting these traveled to Monmouth to represent GHS at District Contest. Those fortunate enough to win firsts there, went to Peoria for State Music Contest later in the Spring. On March 8 several GHS students took part in an All County Band which played several enjoyable numbers at the Teachers' Institute in Kewanee. Near the end of the year, the band took a trip to Springfield where it participated in another competitive round, the State Fair Contest. All in all, the music department really deserves to be complimented a great deal for all it has done during this past year. Espe- cially deserving of praise are our leaders in this field, Mr. James and Miss Santee. All students, I am sure, will agree that the suc- cess of this year's music department is due to these two teachers and all those students who put in so much time on their music. PEP BAND TOP ROW: M.
