As the students entered the gym, their faces revealed the excitement and anticipation that accom- panies a Homecoming assembly. The gymnasium was the scene on an old Southern plantation, the main attraction being a beautiful white- columned house. The announcement of the Homecoming Queen and court climaxed the gala event. Rebecca Ashby reigned as Homecom- ing Queen and the court included Eva Harrington, Junior Princess; Chris Wilkerson, Sophomore Princess; Brenda Murray, Freshman Prin- cess; and Marvin Jarman and Elaine Fleming, Mr. and Miss School Spirit. We ' ve Got Steom For Victory, the theme of the Sophomore float entry, won first prize in the Homecoming parade that followed. Although the Phantoms were defeated that night by the Elizabeth City Yellow Jackets, the spirit and excitement of the day ' s activities re- mained very much alive. 118 Activities 1 19 Mr. and Miss School Spirit Marvin Jarman Elaine Fleming 121 Homecoming Sponsors 1968 A big part of the Homecoming Assembly and pa- rade is the presentation of sponsors. Each girl is cho- sen by a senior starter to represent him. At the game the sponsors are seated along the field to cheer the team to victory. The seniors, coached by Dave Bumgarner, and the |uniors, coached by James Harris, practiced for a week before playing their big game. The first score came with a powerful sweep by the junior fullback. The seniors rallied in the fourth quarter and scored on a reverse play with the wingback. With a few seconds left in the game, a senior end recovered a junior fumble, but before the seniors could score, the game ended in a 7-7 tie. 126 French Club. . .Science able marshal SCA President . . . Without your sup- port and cooperation, it would be impossible for us to produce our school annual, which means a great deal to each student.
