Walking along under the rich blue sky with leaves crackling be- neath our feet, we feel the cool crisp air blow gently against our faces. The world, as if it has just been created, is suddenly ours for the first time. The sylvan surroundings, the road with no end, the air, the scintillating sky combine in splendor and mount in expecta- tion for the days to come. The sun streams down steadily, bathing the soul with warmth. All thoughts burst forth in expression of the beauty that surrounds and enthralls the very inner being. The road ascends. Our thoughts break forth in questions of anguish and confusion, contrasting with the placid sur- roundings. Our restless spirit calls out for a destiny. It demands an answer to life ' s riddles. It demands an end to dissatisfaction, laxity, and indecision. A plotted course must be obtained. The world must be cleansed, every op- portunity seized, every advantage offered. We continue walking. The answer is found. It lies within ourselves. We are the means and the ends. We are the hope for the present and the linkage to the future. The endless challenge to improve, to make better must be present. Each person has a job to do; each person has a duty to per- form. Some are small, some are large, but each is important. What is life but putting a smile on someone else ' s face, helping a small child up after a fall, or picking a rose? Life is a present, each day being a package of excitement, disappointment, or experiences. The world is ours. The frontier new. We continue walking. Real- ization overcomes us. 5

ecficaiion 67 To be able to enter into the spirit of a classroom, into the very hearts of the students, requires a special person. Having a gift for understanding and sincer- ity unequaled, this special person gives to each student a vital part of herself. Unselfishly and completely, she has performed a job well-done, always trying to improve herself and thus improving those around her. With soft brown hair, sparkling eyes, and a radiant smile that demands response, Mrs. Linda Totten has contributed much to every- one she has been associated with. Vigor, energy, a youthful disposition -- for these reasons and for just being the wonderful person she is, the 1967 TAU is dedicated to her and for her with respect and deep appreciation. 7
