mzations Orga HO OR SOCIETIES The honor societies continue as always . . . un- changing. Many of their members seemed content to relax and exult in the achievement after reach- ing the top. Others strove to keep the societies from vegetating. Basically though, these two par- ties of people cancelled each other out and the activities kept alive were the ones that have al- ways been done year after year. There was one special condition that hampered many of the honor societies: no large field trips could be planned as the county would not provide trans- portation. The energy crisis had struck! The French and Spanish Honor Societies did manage to get out a few times despite the crisis. The Spanish Honor Society went to see Cer- vantes and had a meal at a Spanish restaurant. The French Honor Society went to a planetarium and heard the lecture given in French. The Rus- sian and German Honor Societies, as well as French and Spanish, all tutored, on different scales. The Latin Honor Society, although limited in the number of Latin Speaking activities they could attend, did not die out as their language had. They spent their club meetings doing such things as translating English songs into Latin. An example: Honka Tonka Femina by Mickus Jag- gerus of the Roventes Saxa! The Art Honor Society constructed a large tur- key to decorate the school at Thanksgiving, They continued to undertake projects that added in- terest and color to the halls throughout the year. The Science Honor Society did a major reform job on the club's constitution and included stu- dents of other classes rather than just seniors. Their main activity was to bring lecturers to the school to speak on such subjects as the comet Kohoutek. The Math Honor Society continued to offer its tutoring services at Bailey's Elementary School as well as here at Stuart. The students that could not tutor did a math project for every term. The Thespian's main activities were putting on the fall and the spring plays. Both of these were suc- cessful. The Junior National Honor Society spent the whole year replentishing their depleated funds. The National Honor Society continued its ex- tensive tutoring program both here and at Glen Forest Elementary School. They hosted the Northern Virginia Chapters of the National Honor Society in the annual conven- tion and planted bulbs in front of the school. And Quill and Scroll . . . just existed . . .
