Mr Pritchard Mr. Varner Mr. Vliet social studies No longer can upperclassmen warn lowly freshmen of the perils they will encounter in their world geography class. World geography no longer exists at J .E.B. Stuart. It has been replaced by world history. A primary reason for this change, according to department head Miss Roberts, is that a background in world history is most helpful for a comprehensive understanding of American history, a course required of all juniors. Congratulations are in order to those American Civilization students who made the renowned iilm on the Lewis and Clark Expedition. This project tied in with the department's idea that there is more social studies to be learned than what is in the textbook.

Since this year, when English was taught to fifteen students who were predominantly Spanish speaking, although other languages were represented. Volunteers from the AP English class worked individually with the students everyday during 4B. The object of the class was to enable the foreign students to understand English well enough to participate fully in the classroom and the community. To the rest of us for whom English is not a foreign language fdiflicult, but not alienj, the English department had much to offer. As department head, Mr. Nalls introduced several new methods of teaching and learning English. The new concepts included modular scheduling and a new writing curriculum for every level of study. The inter-relation of social studies and English was used more widely than ever before. li TW w fx Mr. Nalls: head of the English department. Q, l

.. A A. f 'L' 1 54 L -r - i Striving toward new heights of perfection, science students this year proved once again the hypothesis: If anything can go wrong, it will go wrong. And demonstrating their usual bravery in the face of ignorance, the Science Department faculty again managed to make it through the year, triumphant in the knowledge that, with the help of new teachers Mr. Roth, Mr. Mannis, Mr. Lelley, and Mr. Lemieux, they had done their part to further enlighten the space age generation. Courses ranged from that freshman nemesis, earth science to biology, chem study, and physics. For the rare, but admirable student who completes all these subjects and still wants more, there is the Advanced Placement Chemistry class. as I 1 l . 6' I I if ' vf l it ., i I i ' :Ni .3 - ,cs . 35- pe! , i Miss Shughrou Mrs. Cheatwood Mr. Lemieux Mr. Maness Department Head Mr. Conrad Mr. Lilley Mrs. Steele Mr. Cataldo science Mrs. Steele, a dedicated microbe hunter . . .
