We think we hav ' e found some interesting answers here in Washington, so we couldn’t help writing you this letter to let you know how your Seniors have progressed in ten years. To our surprise, when we arrived at the hotel, Terry Allen, head bell boy, took our luggage to our rooms. At dinner in the hotel dining room that night whom should we meet but gentle¬ man “Frenchie” Martin, who makes an excellent maitre’d. He told us Ed Edmundson, who always did like water, is the hotel’s dish washer. Do you remember how intelligent Pam Symmes was? Well, returning to our rooms that night, we saw the poor dear scrubbing floors in the hallway. We decided to turn on the television set in our room, and we came in on a newsreel. It certainly was exciting when we saw John Yoder, now a big golf pro, winning the National Open, and Jim Phoebus receiving the title of All-American. Imagine our feelings when we saw Fred Gaines, a prominent professor, lecturing on the importance of good study habits! It was wonderful seeing Judy Over, the famous scholar, being honored at a meeting of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, and hearing Pete Bazylewicz, director of the Mayo Clinic, speaL How happy we were to see film clips of Hollywood star Alden Curtis having a reunion with her old friend Nancy Herrman now the highest paid star of the Met. We always knew Larry Hughes would go far, but we never expected him to go as far as the mmon, in a rocket ship designed by nuclear physicist Jo Brickley. After the news, who should we see but George Cox with his own U.S. Bandstand. Bright and early the next m.orning we set out shopping. To our amazement our cab driver was Pam Oliver! You’ll never guess who we saw cleaning streets on the way — Jim Christenson, one of your ace students! We decided to go the rest of our way on foot when we saw Bille Hougart playing the drums on a street corner for pennies. I know you remember Susan Flynt, that most intelligent girl. Well, you can imagine how we felt when w ' e saw her selling flowers at the next corner, right next to Howard Silberstein’s newsstand. We bought a Washington Post from him. We couldn’t help noticing that Donald Hyland is now head photographer for “Confidential.” Street corners must be very popular here for on the next corner we met Jo Anne Johns, the girl who was always interested in medicine, selling a cure — for a quarter. We waved a big hello to Bob Robyak and Phil Kirwan, who were busy digging sewers, and we stopped to see Lee Johnson engineering the construction of a sky scraper. For old time’s sake he was now employing Bill Kirkland as a brick-layer. We ran into Jack Mooney, now a quiet married man with five children, and were so glad to see Ralph Pensoneau selling insurance door-to-door. At last on Constitution Avenue we stepped into a store dealing exclusively in short skirts and fancy styles, and found Jill Francis, the owner. She told us Mike Tyler is now a famous lawyer defending old friend Susie Roberts on charges of disturbing the peace. Jill also in¬ formed us of the biggest auto repair shop in New York, owned by Steve Swaney, and the largest baby-sitting business in the world run by Jeanne Furbee and Jane Price. We heard from them that Nick Pettit is now head coach for O’Connel High School and Phil Lester is band director of Stuart and married to Elssa Zipp! Next we went to Woodie’s where we saw Kim Fraleigh selling shoes. We were delighted to hear from her that Cyndy Bell owns a large chain of gas stations and Sue Meyer owns a taxidermist shop. You remember Jaci Hildreth, don’t you? Well, she is now working in a bakery and just loves her job. We stopped at Garfinckle’s and saw Anne Parmalee and Joanne Leckert model exquisite creations de¬ signed by Anne Gartrell. We noticed Kathie Porterfield in a swanky Chrysler showroom and walked in, which was a mistake. Gary Wood, super-salesman, tried to sell us a car because he wanted a raise from manager John Silliman. We learned from Gary that Helen Weinberger owns a fleet of twelve sports cars!! Done with our shopping, we went to Embassy Row to visit Diane Ballou, now a French Ambassadress. We saw Fran Tartasky and Carolyn Parsons busily leading a tour at the Cuban Embassy — in Spanish no less. That night we went to the National to see a musical comedy. John Wilkins, who couldn’t make it as a professional dancer, ushered us to our seats. Pam Allender was darling in the leading role, and we were very surprised to see Carol Harkleroad, who we thought rather shy, in the chorus line. We visited Pam backstage after the show, and she told us that Cyndi Casey is a modem-dance artist in the Arena Theatre. We weren’t astonished to hear Mike Allender is now a successful comedian, and Mike Golla is his press agent. On our way to the Lotus Club, that wonderful show spot owned by Jack Christensen, we passed a poster announcing Pat AtcKinley’s rodeo at the new stadium. Her show was replac¬ ing Bob Bingham’s revival meetings there. After the Lotus we felt kind of adventurous, so we went to the gambling ship owned by “Whitey” Hughes. Whitey was filled with excitement because his buddy Ray Matthaei had just been appointed Captain of the S.S. United States. So, we hope you’v ' e enjoyed this visit with the class of ’61. It is composed of junior and senior girls who serve our school and our community. It has presented the school with a mascot, called “Little Jeb,” a map locating “away” schools, and purchased trash cans. The members of the club served as maids on Maid and Butler Day to help raise money for the March of Dimes. They have sold confetti and pennants at football games, donated a Christmas dinner to a needy family, and have made the awards for the Senior Super¬ latives. Stuart Varsity had the most successful season since the school’s opening. Under the capable leadership of head coach, Mr. Jerry Pauls, end coach, Mr. Terry Cannon; and line coach, Mr. Barry Blake, the Raiders ended with five wins and three losses in the regular season. The team was gifted with a wealth of material in both the line and backfield. The defensive and offensive lines were definite mainstavs in the team’s strength. The ' o backfield had unusual depth of equal capability to produce its function as its part of our outstanding well-coordinated football team. Members of the team practiced long and hard during the summer months to strive to attain the best physical condi¬ tion possible. The benefit of these long and hard hours helped to produce an excel¬ lent season. Jim Phoebus was chosen Most Valuable player by his teammates, and John Black- well took the honors as high scorer with sixty-one points. John tied for fifth high scorer in Northern Virginia. On the All Fairfax County Team, were Bob Robyak, Jim Phoebus and Brent Ames, with Joe Dean, and John Wilkins receiving Honor¬ able Mention. Bob and Jim also received Honorable Mention in the All-Metropoli¬ tan poll. 129 J. V. FOOTBALL L to R, 1st ROW: F. Olexy, T. Anderson, G. Pensoneau, J. Rein¬ hart, R. Pitts, J. Carman. 2nd ROW: D.
