The flight deck has been called the most dangerous place on earth to work For many of the men of Air Department the flight is also a home away from home The Air Department consists of a large group of highly skilled men organized into a smooth working team that makes a viable contribution to the safe and successful completion of flight operations says ABHCKAWD Adrian Knight There are three divisions wlthln Air Department V 1 V-3 and V-4 Each division ts responsible for a different aspect of flight operations V 1 ls broken down into three separate groups crash and salvage landing signalmen enlisted for LSE sl and 'blue shirts The crash and salvage teams man up all the firefighting gear during flight operations Colo f They also drive all yellow support gear on the flight deck The LSE s are responsible for directing flight deck landings and launchings. The third group ls the blue shirts The blue shirts job is to tie down aircraft and secure lt to the deck preventing accidental movement during bad weath- The hangar bay is the domain of V 3 Division V 3 personnel operate and handle maintenance for the aircraft elevators move aircraft around on the hangar bay and work to keep the hangar bay clean The purple shirts of V-4 provide for the safe handling storage and distribution of all aviation fuels Working on the flight deck can be a dangerous job and safety is paramount But the men of Air Department have succeeded in carrying out their mission in a highly professional manner
