CAPTAIN cCAM 'W EXECUTIVE OFFICER 0 .V ' In WILLIAM Captain William C. McCamy was born November 11, 1945 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marquette University in January 1968 and entered the Navy as an Aviation Officer Candidate at Pensacola, Florida. He was commissioned on May 24, 1968. After designation as a Naval Aviator in June 1969, he reported to Fort Rucker, Alabama for Army UH-1 Helicopter Tactics Training. In November 1969, Captain McCamy joined Helicopter Attack tLightj Squadron THREE IHAL-3j in Binh Thuy, Republic Vietnam where he served in DET 1 located in the Ca Mau Peninsula. Returning to the U.S. one year later, he proceeded to Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron ONE CHS-1j in Quonset Point, Rhode lsland for carrier replacement pilot training in the SH-3D Sea King. Reporting to Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron FIVE CHS-5j in May 1971, he operated off the decks of the USS WASP USS INTREPID and USS INDEPENDENCE and served in CVSG54 and CVW 7. While attached to HS-5 he served as Comm Officer! RPS Custodian, Aviation Safety Officer and NATOPS Officer. Finishing a three year tour with HS5 in March 1974, he reported to Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron ONE QHS-lj as an instructor pilot at its new location in Jacksonville, Florida. HS 1 Ca tain McCam served as the ASW Officer and spent one year assigned to Helicopter Antisubmarine While assigned to - p y Wing ONE as the TAC DSLE Officer and maintained a collateral duty with HS-1 as an instructor pilot. Following this initial shore tour, ' o in July 1976 he accepted orders to the United Kingdom to participate in the Personnel Exchange Program and joined 703 Squadr in Portland, Dorset, England to transition to the WASP Helicopter. Completing training in February 1977 he was assigned to 829 Squadron and assumed the duties as the Flight Commander of HMS LEANDER. While on exchange, Captain McCamy was award the Huntsman Trophy and Herbert Lott Award as Best Student Aviator for 1976. Returning to the U.S. in June 1979, he entered the Naval War College and completed the course of study of the Naval Comma and Staff Curriculum. Graduating as the Outstanding Student and receiving the Navy League's Sims Award in June 1980, he returned to NAS Jacksonville and joined Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron NINE where he served as Maintenance Officer and Operations Officer embarked aboard USS NIMITZ, USS CARL VINSON and with CVW 8. ln June 1983 he detached with orders to the Office of the CNO iManpower, Personnel and Trainingj IOP-01Bj. Following this short tour in Washington he returned to NAS Jacksonville to assume command of Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron SEVENTEEN in April 1984. Upon completion of this command tour he reported as Executive Officer in July 1988. Captain McCamy received a Master of Arts Degree in Personnel Management from Central Michigan University. His awards include two Distinguished Flying Crosses, 29 Strike! Flight Air medals, three Navy Commendation medals, the Comb Action ribbon and the Presidential Unit Citation. Captain McCamy is married to former Carole Anne Nuesse of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
