column Num mnpmmous squnnnmv rnun CAPTAIN ELMER fm 5 : L. 1 KEIHL USN Captain Elmer H. KElHL., USN was born in Annapolis, Maryland on 8 June l925. Entering the Navy in june I943, he was graduated from the Naval Academy in june I946. Captain KlEHl.'s first assignment in the fleet was aboard the battleship NEW JERSEY as a Gunnery and CIC Officer. ln I949 he attended Submarine School, thence to the USS SEA FOX CSS-4025 as Supply and Engineer Officer, qualifying in submarines in l95l. His next assignment was the USS TILEFISH l55-3077 as Engineer, Communications, and Operations Officer. From I954 to I956 he was a Torpedo Pfolect Officer at the Bureau of Ordnance. ln l956 he reported aboard the USS SEA ROBIN CSS-4071 SS Executive Officer and shortly thereafter qualified for command of submarines. The next three years were Silent as Commanding Officer of the USS BERGALL CSS-3205 and the USS BONEFISH CSS-5821. In l96l he was a member of the faculty of the U. S. Army and General Staff College.
