I 1980 0 Ranum High School returned to the Roaring 20's during homecoming festivities on October 17 and 18. The participation in the Friday events and Saturday's dance was better than in previous years. dedicated to Mr. JOE DAVEY , 'sr .I . l rf ,..f3' x Mr. Davey, a social studies teacher at Ranum, has been writing professionally for around 20 years. He has had various poems and stories appear in such magazines as South Dakota Review, The Literary Tabloid, and Northwoods journal. He has had a poem and novel receive awards in national competition in 1974 and 19765 coupled with national literary awards for his stories, Exit Anther , Canned Skies , Bruised Balance , and The Ascent of Samson Poppit . His wife, june, and his family, Mark, Diana, and Karen, are excited for loe's recent book publication, As Any Mountains of Its Snows . The book contains 19 short stories including the four above. The title is from a line of Whitman's poetry. He hopes to write as a full time career someday. In speaking of his recent publication, this is one of the most exciting things that has ever happened to me. lt is with great pleasure that we, the student body and staff of Ranum, dedicate this annual to a man who is truly an inspiration to us all, Coming Together by joseph Davey Seeking Hoping Striving Weaving of fragments Out of diverse wanderings, From far and varied, From the separate and uncaring, To something better, Something positive, Something closer to a harmony, A sharing - Together.
