CO CHES WW 'l 1+ l.tllr....lf 'U AL ASHTON Born: Aberdeen, South Dakota Mr. Al Ashton attended Boulder High School where he lettered in football, wrestling, and. baseball. He went on to earn both a Bachelor and Master of Arts at Adams State of Arts College. Athletically in college, Coach Ashton was on a wrestling scholarship and lettered in football, wrestling, and soccer. His sophomore year he was picked the outstanding 130 pound in the United States by National wrestler Wrestling Magazine. Coach Ashton, a teacher at Gregory Hills Elementary, has just complet- ed his first year as Ranum's first varsity soccer coach with coaching the team to the Skyline League Championship. BOB BUHLER Born: Maryville, Missouri Mr. Buhler attended Maur Hill High School in Atchison, Kansas. Coach Buhler lettered three years in basketball, football and baseball, being all conference shortstop his senior year. Coach Buhler had an outstanding collegiate career at Regis College, participating in basketball for two years, baseball for four years while acting as the student J .V. coach for two years. He was also chosen outstanding senior in athletics in the class of 55 . It is interesting to note that Coach Buhler was offered professional baseball contracts in 1953 from the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadel- phia Phillies. He has coached football, basket- ball and baseball during his coaching tenure starting in the fall of 1962. i i LOU BARETTA Born: Boulder, Colorado Mr. Lou Baretta prepped at North Denver High School where he lettered in gymnas- tics. From there he competed for the University of Northern Colorado where he won 2nd team All American honors in 1958 and 1959. Coach Baretta graduated with majors in History and Political Science and minors in Physical Education and Math. In his coaching tenure at Ranum his gymnastic teams have won 3 State Championships 11969, 1970, 19711, he has been chosen Colorado Gymnastics Coach of the Year 11967-19701 and Coach Baretta has partici- pated as a Member of the National High School Rules Committee. , n f,QE'j. ,g,,,.,..f..'K5HEie.. f , , l X . X, . i DOMINIC CAPRA Born: Kansas City, Missouri Coach Capra attended De La Salle High School in Kansas City where he lettered in both basketball and football. He played collegiate football and graduated in Social Studies-History from the University of Missouri. Mr. Capra cur- rently is one of Ranum's Sophomore Team football coaches. Coach Capra spends some of his off-season time officiating basketball games. LOREN BLASER Born: Waterville, Kansas Mr. Loren Blaser attended Waterville High School in Kansas where he not only lettered in Football, Basketball, and Track but was also chosen All State in Football. Coach Blaser graduated from Kansas State University where he majored in Physical Education and minored in Biology, Social Science, and Industrial Arts. He also competed collegiately in both Football and Baseball. Mr. Blaser received his Masters Degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Industrial Arts. Presently, Coach Blaser is an assistant track coach here at Ranum, but made a notable contribution to the Football program when he was head coach for 13 years and compiled an 82 percent win record. GARY FLYNN Born: Longmont, Colorado Mr. Gary Flynn graduated from Longmont Hig School where he lettered 4 years in Baseball, an 3 years in both basketball and Football. Als during high school, he was all-conference 2 yea in both baseball and basketball, and 1 year i football. He was chosen outstanding high scho athlete, moved on to be a Junior College A American Honorable Mention-All Regional Ni J.C. in Basketball. Coach Flynn graduated fro the University of Northern Colorado majoring i Physical Education, rninoring in Biology. M Flynn was the Varsity Basketball coach for ma years at Ranum and is currently the assista Varsity Baseball coach.

A graduate of North High School, Mr. Rich Garifi participated in baseball, football basketball and track He letter- ed 1n football and track was captain of the track team and was chosen out- standing athlete for football his senior year After graduation Mr Garifi attend- ed the University of Northern Colorado where he majored in Business Education Accounting While at UNC Coach Gar1f1 played football for two years. He has also received his Masters Degree in Vocational Education from Colorado State University At Ranum Mr Garifi previously coached football for three years and IS presently in his fourth year Coach Wayne Humphrey competed and lettered athletically as a youth in Baseball and Wrestling before graduating from North High School He attended the University of Northem Colorado where he received his Bachelor of Y Arts Degree majoring in Physical Education, minoring in Art and Industrial Arts. While wrestling in college Coach Humphrey won Rocky Mountaln Conference Championship status A few highhghts of Coach Humphrey's coaching career at Ranum are Coach of the Colorado High School team that toured Japan in 1974 Colorado Wresthng Coach of the Year 1976 and Coach of the State Class AAA Wrestling Champions 1976 Coach Humphrey's winning team records in both duel meet competition and tournament wrestling are unparalleled in the State of Colorado. 'ill GRETCHEN GODFREY Born: Lancaster, Pennsylvania Ms. Gretchen Godfrey is a graduate of a Lititz, Pennsylvania High School called Linden Hall. While there, she lettered in field hockey, tennis, and basketball. Upon graduation she moved west to major in Physical Education, minor in speech at the University of Denver. Coach Godfrey lettered collegiatally in both Gymnastics and Track. At the age of 10, Ms. Godfrey placed in the Mid Atlantic States Junior Olympics in AAU Swimming. Besides coaching both Bas- ketball and Volleyball at Ranum, Coach Godfrey has been the President of the Skyline League Coaches Association 475 -763 and a member of the CHSAA Board of Control. WAYNE HUMPHREY Born: Westminster, Colorado Mr. Jim Jenkins attended Westminster High School where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball for two years each. He attended Colorado State University where he majored in , Industrial Arts and minored in Science. His first teaching assignment was at Ranum where he has been for the past 14 years. He has been the Head baseball coach here for twelve of those years. In that period of time his teams have had five league championships, a third place in state, and he has captured the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in 1974. In 1974 he was selected Colorado Coach of the Year and District 8 coach of the year for baseball, i Q' TOM HINTON Born: Pittsburg, Pennsylvania Coach Tom Hinton grew up Denver area attending East High School. He lettered in Football, Wrestling, and Track, along with being All City, All Metro, and All State in Football: All City and Third in State in Wrestling. Coach Hinton graduated from Colorado State University where he letered in Football, majored in Physical Education and minored in Biology. As Head Coach of the mighty Ranum Raider Football Team, he helped guide them to a second place finish in the State this year. Also, Coach Hinton has been a superb asset as an assistant coach for the outstanding wrestling teams at Ranum High School. in the JIM JENKINS au.: Born: Mancos, Colorado Q I f f '1-s'i BILL GAVITO Born: Denver, Colorado - Mr. William Gavito attended West- minister High School where he lettered in Football, Wrestling and Track prior to . graduation. He furthered his education an at the University of Colorado where he 'f - received both a Bachelors and a Masters Degree Majoring in Physical Education minoring in Driver Education, and letter- ed in Cross Country and Track all 4 Years. An interesting point to Coach Gavito's athletic career is that in 1951 he was the Rocky Mountain AAU 2 mile record holder Coach Gavito lS currently 3' B ' - ' an assistant coach for the perenmally outstanding Ranum Gymnastics team .--: ' M' DOUG LOHREY Coach Lohrey, a former Ranum graduate, competed high schoolwise in golf, basketball and football. In both basketball and football, he was named second If team all conference. He attended Bethany College in K N Kansas on an Athletic scholarship. Coach Lohrey then transferred to the University of Northern Colorado where he competed in basketball while he continued - his studies as a Business Major-Economics. Mr. - Lohrey came to Ranum in 1975 and is currently the sophomore basketball coach. He enjoys participating in sports and spends most of his spare time reading J, -s'... K f . religious materials. 95
