AL MATTEI Born: Denver, Colorado Mr. Al Mattei did his high school prepping at Mount Carmel High School in Denver where he letter- ed in Football, Basketball and Baseball. He moved on to play football for the University of Northern Colorado where he ma- jored in Industrial Arts and minor- ed in Physical Education. Coach Mattei is currently the Varsity Line Coach for Football and runs the weight program for Ranum High School in the summer. JANET LOPEZ ' Born: Denver, Colorado Ms. Janet Lopez graduated from Mache- beuf High School in Denver, then going , on to attend the University of Northern . I as Colorado. Ms. Lopez was active in many sports in high school, including basket- ball, volleyball, softball and tennisg 5 I Y continuing on into college and lettering ' in basketball, softball and field hockey. Ms. Lopez majored in Physical Education l' and minored in Spanish. She was a substitute in District 50 at Clear Lake for a year and then left for Windsor, Colorado. Coach Lopez is currently a physical education teacher at Clear Lake X and an assistant swimming coach at 7 Ranum. BOB MITCHELL Born: Denver, Colorado Mr. Bob Mitchell attended Abraham Lincoln High 1 School where he lettered in both cross country and track, being the lead runner on the 1967 state record holding 2-mile relay team. A major in Business, he attended the University of Northem Colorado and received a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Colorado State University. He participated in both cross country and track while in college. He has been teaching at Ranum for the past six years and has been coaching the swim team for the last three years. BOB RAMSAY Born: Homestead, Pennsylvania A Mr. Bob Ramsay is a welcome addition to the Ranum High School teaching staff and the basketball program. He was an outstanding basketball player both in high school and college. He prepped at Munhall, Pennsylvania High School and went on to major in Physical Education, minor in Science, Social Studies, and Industrial Arts at Penn State University. Coach Ramsay furthered his education by receiving a Masters degree in Physical Education from the University of Florida. A major highlight of Coach Ramsay's athletic career was playing basketball in the NCAA Tournament in 1954-55. Coach Ramsay is presently teaching in the Industrial Arts Area after transferring from Shaw Heights Jr. High to Ranum and is the J.V. Basketball Coach. TOM LYNCH Born: Fargo North Dakota Mr. Tom Lynch grew up in North Dakota and graduated from St. James High School in Grand Forks, North Dakota. While in high school Mr. Lynch lettered in Football, Basket- ball, Track and Tennis. He went on to complete his Bachelors degree in Social Science from the University of North Dakota. While in college Coach Lynch formed one part of the fabulous dynamic tennis doubles team for the 'tFighting Sioux. Coach Lynch has taught and coached previously in Minnesota before coming to Ranum. He has been a tremendous addition to Ranum's football program being involved mainly with preparing the Sophomore football players for Varsity competition. Coach Lynch's hobbies include Racquetball, Downhill and Cross Country Skiing. Fl' tennis team, 1 yi, , . in L E? , ,t ' ' J as . ., 4 I . Born: Minot North Dakota Mr. Jim Melhouse graduated from Bismark High School Bismark North Dakota where he lettered in Tennis Football and Basketball From there ' Mr. Melhouse went on to major in Social Studies and minor in English at the University of North Dakota He furthered his education by receiving a master of Arts Degree from the University of North Dakota. In case you haven t guessed by ill now, Coach Melhouse was what he considers the lead part of the whole but at least the other half of the dynamic tennis doubles team for the Fighting Sioux Coach Melhouse has had outstanding tennis teams here at Ranum, including a championship team this year He is also completing his first year as coach of the girls BYRON RIGGS Born: Denver, Colorado 34 Mr. Byron Riggs grew up in Denver Colorado and 1 ' graduated from East High School While at East h participated in Football Basketball and Baseball lettering in Baseball all three years and being chosen 'T All City. From there Coach Riggs attended Mesa Jr College where he played baseball on a team that competed in the Junior College World , Series two years in a row From there he pitched for the University of Northern Colorado An interesting record Coach Riggs tied was the NCAA Record for , most its in a game going 7 hits for 8 times at bat Coach Riggs also played Professional Baseball in the Pacific Coast League with the Hawaiian Islanders for 3 years. Mr Riggs graduated from the University of Northern Colorado major ing in Physical Education and is current ly in his 6th year of teaching at Berkeley Gardens Elementary Coach Riggs 1S in his third year domg an outstanding job as Ranum s Sophomore Baseball Coach

A graduate of North High School, Mr. Rich Garifi participated in baseball, football basketball and track He letter- ed 1n football and track was captain of the track team and was chosen out- standing athlete for football his senior year After graduation Mr Garifi attend- ed the University of Northern Colorado where he majored in Business Education Accounting While at UNC Coach Gar1f1 played football for two years. He has also received his Masters Degree in Vocational Education from Colorado State University At Ranum Mr Garifi previously coached football for three years and IS presently in his fourth year Coach Wayne Humphrey competed and lettered athletically as a youth in Baseball and Wrestling before graduating from North High School He attended the University of Northem Colorado where he received his Bachelor of Y Arts Degree majoring in Physical Education, minoring in Art and Industrial Arts. While wrestling in college Coach Humphrey won Rocky Mountaln Conference Championship status A few highhghts of Coach Humphrey's coaching career at Ranum are Coach of the Colorado High School team that toured Japan in 1974 Colorado Wresthng Coach of the Year 1976 and Coach of the State Class AAA Wrestling Champions 1976 Coach Humphrey's winning team records in both duel meet competition and tournament wrestling are unparalleled in the State of Colorado. 'ill GRETCHEN GODFREY Born: Lancaster, Pennsylvania Ms. Gretchen Godfrey is a graduate of a Lititz, Pennsylvania High School called Linden Hall. While there, she lettered in field hockey, tennis, and basketball. Upon graduation she moved west to major in Physical Education, minor in speech at the University of Denver. Coach Godfrey lettered collegiatally in both Gymnastics and Track. At the age of 10, Ms. Godfrey placed in the Mid Atlantic States Junior Olympics in AAU Swimming. Besides coaching both Bas- ketball and Volleyball at Ranum, Coach Godfrey has been the President of the Skyline League Coaches Association 475 -763 and a member of the CHSAA Board of Control. WAYNE HUMPHREY Born: Westminster, Colorado Mr. Jim Jenkins attended Westminster High School where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball for two years each. He attended Colorado State University where he majored in , Industrial Arts and minored in Science. His first teaching assignment was at Ranum where he has been for the past 14 years. He has been the Head baseball coach here for twelve of those years. In that period of time his teams have had five league championships, a third place in state, and he has captured the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in 1974. In 1974 he was selected Colorado Coach of the Year and District 8 coach of the year for baseball, i Q' TOM HINTON Born: Pittsburg, Pennsylvania Coach Tom Hinton grew up Denver area attending East High School. He lettered in Football, Wrestling, and Track, along with being All City, All Metro, and All State in Football: All City and Third in State in Wrestling. Coach Hinton graduated from Colorado State University where he letered in Football, majored in Physical Education and minored in Biology. As Head Coach of the mighty Ranum Raider Football Team, he helped guide them to a second place finish in the State this year. Also, Coach Hinton has been a superb asset as an assistant coach for the outstanding wrestling teams at Ranum High School. in the JIM JENKINS au.: Born: Mancos, Colorado Q I f f '1-s'i BILL GAVITO Born: Denver, Colorado - Mr. William Gavito attended West- minister High School where he lettered in Football, Wrestling and Track prior to . graduation. He furthered his education an at the University of Colorado where he 'f - received both a Bachelors and a Masters Degree Majoring in Physical Education minoring in Driver Education, and letter- ed in Cross Country and Track all 4 Years. An interesting point to Coach Gavito's athletic career is that in 1951 he was the Rocky Mountain AAU 2 mile record holder Coach Gavito lS currently 3' B ' - ' an assistant coach for the perenmally outstanding Ranum Gymnastics team .--: ' M' DOUG LOHREY Coach Lohrey, a former Ranum graduate, competed high schoolwise in golf, basketball and football. In both basketball and football, he was named second If team all conference. He attended Bethany College in K N Kansas on an Athletic scholarship. Coach Lohrey then transferred to the University of Northern Colorado where he competed in basketball while he continued - his studies as a Business Major-Economics. Mr. - Lohrey came to Ranum in 1975 and is currently the sophomore basketball coach. He enjoys participating in sports and spends most of his spare time reading J, -s'... K f . religious materials. 95

Born: Duluth Minnesota IRV SANDOVAL rn: Albuquerque, New Mexico . Irv Sandoval graduated m St. Michael's High School Santa Fe, New Mexico. He .ered in basketball, track, tball, tennis and baseball. set the State Track record Pole Vaulting while in high DICK ROUSH Born: Kirk, Colorado Mr. Richard Roush participated in high school athletics at Crook, Colo- ado. He lettered in football, basket- ball, track and baseball. He then furthered his education at Northeast- ern Jr. College and Colorado College majoring in Chemistry: he also minor- ed in Math. Collegiate-wise Mr. Roush lettered in football, basketball and track. Being the Varsity Cross Country and Head Track coach keeps Coach Roush active on the sports scene at Ranum. KATIE RYAN Born: Boulder, Colorado Ms. Katie Ryan attended Boulder High School where she lettered in Field Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball and Ten- nis. She furthered her education at the University of Northern Colorado, major- ing in Physical Education, minoring in Guidance and Counseling and Drivers Education. While at Greeley, Coach Ryan participated in Field Hockey, Basketball and Track. She played on the Colorado National Field Hockey Team in 1970,71,72, and 73. Coach Ryan is the current head swimming coach and assist- AUGIE SIMMINGTON Born: Denver, Colorado Mr. Bill Simington prepped at Mullen High School in Denver. He earned a school total of 9 letters in high participating in football, track, wrest- school ling and boxing. As a high football player, he was chosen 2-time all parochial and was an all state tackle. Coach Simmington also finish- ed second in the state in wrestling for lool. Furthering his education, Coach Sandoval attended Regis College majoring History and minoring in Philosophy and English Literature. Also in college rich Sandoval competed in Basketball, Baseball and Tennis. Coach Sandoval has irvived 17 years of coaching and has produced some excellent defensive backs the Varsity Football team. Coach Sandoval has also been an asset as an listant Track Coach for Ranum High School. CHUCK VERNON Oberlin, Kansas Chuck Vernon did his high school ping at Norcator High School, Kan- He was outstanding in lettering in all, basketball, baseball and track. hen attended Wichita State Univer- on a football scholarship, transfer- a year later to Kansas State ersity where he went on to major in ical Education. Coach Vemon came anum in 1964 where he coached all for ten years. He is currently in econd year as a track coach, and has leted an outstanding season this in his first year as Ranum's head tball coach. CHRIS SUMNER Ms. Chris Sumner grew up in Duluth, Minnesota where she attended Herman- town, High School. She won honors in gymnastics as the Minnesota State Floor Exercise Champion as a Junior in High School. Coach Sumner continued her education majoring in Health and Physi- cal Education and minoring in Education at Gustavus Adolphus College. She competed collegiatally in Gymnastics. Currently Ms. Sumner is the head coach for Gymnastics and Track. 2 years. Furthering his education at the University of Northern Colorado, Coach Simington received his Bache- lors and Masters degree in Science- Biology and Chemistry. Coach Sim- ington also played collegiate football and was a member of the UNC power weight lifting team. ant Track Coach. -S- 3 BILL TULLEY Born: Washington D.C. 'I'-...tg -an TONI WOOD As a child Mr. Bill Tulley lived all over the world because his father was in the Army. He finished high school at Hilderberg High in Germany where he lettered in football, basketball, track and golf. Mr, Tulley received his degree from the University of Denver majoring in Marketing and minoring in Sales. While coaching at Ranum, Coach Tul- ley's teams have qualified for State 9 straight years from 1966-1974, have won 5 Skyline League Championships and 5 District Championships. Born: Mount Kisco, New York Ms. Wood graduated from Garden City High School in Garden City, New York where she lettered in Field Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball. She competed at the University of Colorado in Field Hockey, Volleyball, and Basket- ball while majoring in Physical Education and minoring in Psychology. A few of the highlights of Coach Wood's coaching career are volleyball league champs 73-74, tennis league champs 73-74, 74-75, 75-76 along with District champions 75-76 and a 12-0 recordg and an undefeated Junior Varsity basket- ball season in 75-76 of 18-0. lil f ur
