Baker, B.S., M.A. A GREETING FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT It gives me a great deal of satisfaction to extend greetings to each student enrolled in the Ithaca Public Schools. The publication of this Annual will bring to a close a school year and another milestone in your life will have been laid. Many cherished memories will become a matte: of record and as the years pass, this book will serve as a reminder ol your school days at Ithaca. To the Seniors: Congratulations and Besw Wishes. You have made a contribution to our school. To the underclassmen: Make the best of the opportunities that are availabh to you in the remaining years of your school life. 4 In a few short Words I shall endeavor to express my feeling of gratitude and appreciation to the annual staff for offering me an opportunity to say a few words, and even more so to say thanks to a fine student body. As I near the completion of my eighth year at Ithaca, I can say without reservation, this has been my best year. We have made some very fine improvements in our building and grounds, we have added new staff members, however, none of this would be of any value to any of us if it were not for the splendid school spirit of you , the students of Ithaca High School. As you continue your education either here at Ithaca or go on to higher education or go into Whatever field of business or life work that you may choose, I sincerely hope that we, the faculty of Ithaca high school, have had some little part in helping you to shape your life plans. At that H time there were 101 members in our class. During tHE first class meeting Mrs. Glines presided until we had chosen Tom Hegle as President, Marzella Thum as Vice- President, Elaine Reeves as Secretary, and Sandra Littell as the Treasurer. The Student Council welcomed us by sponsoring a dance in our honor. By the time we received our final marks in the Spring we felt as though we be- P longed at IHS and had sponsored a dance of our own, whichQ we called the nharvest Hoedo nu. , , 1 xive saw that there were many opportunities for us when we returned in the fall, but there was also a great deal of work to Le done. Mrs. Smith and Miss Randall took the job of guiding our class for the year. The Sophomore one-act plays were eliminated and an all-school play, nThe Man who Came to Dinnern gave six of,our class members a chance to participate for theotwo night run. Class presidency was given to Marzella Thum that year. Bud Howes was elected to assist her. Florence Eichorn was a capable Secretary, while Mary MacLaren did very well at keeping a record of the Treasury. At the beginning of our Junior year Mrs. Smith and Mr. Balconi became our advisors and remained with us until graduation. President bob Strong and Vice-President Bud Howes, Secretary Milt hoard, Treasurer Bev Sadler were the slate of officers. During the Spring rush we put on' the play, nLittle Womenn, and entertained the Seniors at the Jr.-Sr. Prom. The theme was Tulip Time and by using hundreds of fresh tulips, a mechanical windmill and much time anui effort it was by far an outstanding and memorable event for ' the many who attended. John harringtOn received the all ' important job of Senior President and wouldn't you know it, Bud was re-elected. hlaine Reeves served us as Secretary, and our funds were handled by Charles Corder. New York was M chosen to be the destination for our Senior Trip and was paid for by the proceeds from the many projects we had had during the four years. Penny Suppers, Bake Sales, dances, Fall Festival booths, the Junior Magazine Sale, and Senior Christmas Card Sale were some of the most outstanding. ,uve conquered as best we could the little problems which arose during the years and met the major one, graduation,by giving diplomas to 83 students.e in GNIOR lAl1l26l ROTARIANS ll Summerville, Bob Strong, Howard DilSW0l'fl'1. gbHill, Bill VanclerHart, Bill Donahoe, Ron ack, Chuck Corder. .alley BOY S STATE loward Dilsworth pb Hill Bob Strong GlRl..'S STATE Alice Ellsworth HUNSICKER AWARD DODGE MEMORIAL Kathleen Bates Arthur Riedel Senior Class Officers John Harrington, Presidentg Roger Howes, Vice- Presidentg Elaine Reeves, Secretaryg Charles Cord- er, Treasurer. . k-'I iu c k f A j f ' r ' I C e,li 2 4: jis3QJi,',.!n!4 D.A.R. This program stresses the importance of being a well ed- ucated and careful considerate driver. hach year the school will lease a car from a local dealer to be used in this program. The dual control car that is pictured at the left was used this past year and is from the Zimmerman Motor Sales.
