But whether we meet or whether we part KF or our ways are past our knowingj, A pledge from the heart to its fellow heart On the ways we all are going! Here's luck! . For we know not where we are going. Whether we win or whether we lose With the hands that life is dealing, It is not we nor the ways we choose But the fall of the cards that's sealing. There's a fate in love and a fate in fight, And the best of us all go under- And whether we're wrong or whether we're right, We win, sometimes, to our wonder. Here's luck- That we may not yet go under! With a steady swing and an open brow We have tramped the ways together, , But we're clzisping hands at the crossroads now In the F iend's own night for weather, And whether we bleed or whether we smile In the leagues that lie before us, The Ways of life are many a mile And the dark of fate is o'er us. Here's luck! And a cheer for the dark before us! You to the left and I to the right, For the ways of men must sever, And it well may be for a day and a night And it well may be forever! But whether we live or whether we die KF or the end is past our knowingl, Here's two frank hearts and the open sky, Be a fair or ill wind blowing! Here's luck! Included among these were eight lettermen back from last year's team. Following is a game by game summary of the season. Scoring their two touchdowns in the first six minutes of play, Greenville took an early 13-0 lead which haca never was able to overtake. Dick Schleder scored Ithaca's lone touchdown following .1 fine 28-yard int return by Roger Howes. This game was played in a very bad rain and hail storm. Extra points meant the winning of the most exciting game of the year with Durand. Dick Schleder iored all three of Ithaca's touchdowns. Ithaca had to come from behind twice to win by a score of 21-19. Although the Yellowjackets were oulplayed by Shepherd during most of the entire game thev came om behind to settle for a tie. Scoring both touchdowns, this was Davis's best performance ofthe year. ie final score was 13-13. Gary Rayburn and Larry Davis, with two touchdowns each. and Roger Howes's one, and Gary Presler's fety gave Ithaca an easy victory over Evart. Ithaca played one of their finest games of the year to efeat Evart 35-0. The Homecoming spirits were danipened at little by the St. Louis Crimson Tide handing The Ithaca ellowjackets a 20-O defeat. Two Ithaca fumbles and a pass interception set up all three St. Louis touch- twns in the Hrst half. Although Ithaca completely outplayed the Pioneers from Clare, the 'Jackets could do no better than to me from behind twice and settle for a tie. Following Davis's brilliant running Schleder scored both uchdowns. Controlling the ball for three periods, the ltbacans folded in the third period and Holding scored their 'o touchdowns. Ithaca's last T.D. came came after a recovered fumble. Schleder again had the scoring nors. In the final contest of the 1953 football season, St. Johns handed the Yellowjackets their third defeat. lying their last game for Ithaca were Seniors Keith Tracy, Gary Presler, Gary Rayburn, Bob Reeves, tarles Muscott, Don Barnes, Jim Randall, Dale Simcox, Larry Davis, john McCormack, and Dick Schleder. This Was one of the toughest schedules ever confronted by an Ithaca football team. With fifteen letterwinners returning, Ithaca's track team sees a very bright future. The new Mid-Michigan BT Conference held a track meet at St. Louis in May. Ithaca plans to be tying host to Conference meets in the near future as Operation Track is well under way. The t'ur1o11s IYIKIV, a three-act comedy, was presented March 18 and 19 by the faculty with all proceeds going to this rthy cause. Many thanks to the teachers. The Ithaca Yellowjackets, directed by our new coach, William Kirby, came through the basketball tson with a record of seven wins and ten losses. Each game, whether won or lost, was truly an exciting :. Tournament play found Ithaca eliminating Chesaning, then losing to St. Johns. A new school record was set this year when the Yellowjackets netted seventy-eight points against lia. The new Mid-Michigan B Conference was organized this year. It consists of Chesaning, Durand, Louis, Shepherd, Clare, and Ithaca. This is the review of the SPORTS of 1953-1954 school year. y v - 1- llll I-I --! Freshmen First row: J. Strong, B. Eicher, B.
