The Student Council President and members are elected each spring. The President is elected from the qualified can- didates of the junior Class, by the student body. The members are elected by each class, with four from the junior class, three from the Sophomore class, and two from the Freshmen class. The following fall the incoming Freshmen elect one member. The Principal and Dean of Girls are the Advisors fbut they have no votej, however the Principal has the power of veto. From the completed Council, committee chairmen are appointed. They in turn select committee members from the student body. The Council meets every week and serves the student body, guiding and directing all activities in conjunction with the administration. ' This year the Student Council under the leadership of Robert Andrews has undertaken many projects. With money earned by the 1944 Council, a public address system for the gymnasium was purchased and installed. During January a O 0 O O Clothing Drive was sponsored and a prize was given to the fourth grade for the largest contribution. Beginning in Febru- ary, a weekly dance during the noon hour was conducted and the first full length movie was presented, with monthly movies following. The Council managed all the advertising for the Athletic Department. After each home game light refreshments were served to the home and visiting teams. Small football charms were purchased for each member of the championship team. Most of the proceeds from the third Variety Show, presented in May, were turned over to the Athletic Department. Funds for the Council Treasury were raised by selling school pencils, pins and guards, booster pins, and sponsoring dances and movies. The sincere interest and boundless energy of Mrs. Fowler has contributed to the success of the Council in all its activities. Annual Staff .... In this issue of the Ithacansian, an attempt has been made to present our school and its activities as representative of the youth in America today-the youth who must prepare to meet the chaos, the trials, and hardships of life-to establish a peaceful worldg that a war more terrible than World War II, may be averted-and to realize and attain ideals, which are only visionary hopes of today. May this book be a true interpretation of the memories and achievements of 1945-6. That's jus' what ah was fixin' ta do. I beg your pardon, Mrs. Livingstone. Am I interrupting you? ..Aum POM has some fresh Custard just made an - Really Durwood, I'm astonished that you should champion a girl y ' . whom you know so little about. Senior Play . t. . . The Senior Play, Lena Rivers , was presented with the following cast: Pat Irish, Bob Andrews, Margaret Mellinger, john Gabrion, Margaret Kleinhans, june Laird, Nola Dawson, jerry Alverson, Madelyn Olson, Lawrence Street, Bill Budge, Eileen Probst, and Charles Federspiel. , The play was directed by Mrs. Fowler. She was assisted by a committee consisting of Eunice Burch, Miles Zimmerman, Rhoda Chalker, and Beverly Cassady. The play proved to be very successful. Page Thi rty-Nine EILEEN PROBST, MRS. FOWLER, Editor Adi-'iror Our school newspaper, The Fortnight Growlern, has been publishedthismyear under the supervision of the journalism Class, advised by Mrs. Fowler. This is the first time in recent years that the publication of the school paper has not been an extra curricular activity. Witli Eileen Probst as editor the journalism Class has published the Growler regularly and successfully every two weeks during the school year. The staff has sent the Growler to many former students who are in the Armed Forces. Copies of the paper have been exchanged regularly for the publications of other schools. Publishing the paper has given the staff valuable and practical experience in the study of journalism. i Journalism 1 I O O O O The Athletic Reporter and Typists Assembling and Mailing the Growler Artists and Mimeographers of the Staff Collecting Subscriptions Page Forty Row 1-Bill Walter, Gene Cornwell, Bill Feith, Neil Crandell, Kenneth Shunk, Martin Wierman, Richard Flegel, Duane Hoard, Murl Sanders, joe Greer, Lawrence Street, Jack Smith, Melvin Parling, Howard Ringle, Lyonel McRoberts, Edward Ringle, Fred Shaull. Bus transportation to the Ithaca Public Schools affords an opportunity for many of the rural eighth grade graduates to obtain a higher education. The increased high school attendance provides the school system with a larger state aid fund, which in turn, profits the local community and permits a greater number of faculty 'membersg thus giving a more diversified curriurlurn to all students. The mileage restrictions having been reduced, the School Board made possible the transportation of athletic teams and groups. Therefore the Buses have served a triple purpose. l Mr. Donahue of the Mr. Cyrus T. Camp, Brophy-Salisbury Co., Engravers Photographer The End of a PERFECT Day Page Fifty-Sim Advertising . . . .
