Hi there, students of IHS! I'm the mouse in your life. Though you seldom see me, I see everything that goes on behind these ivied walls. In fact I live here. When I was compiling my memoirs I set aside some parts about your school year-the teachers, the classes, club meetings, sports events, concerts, and plays. The Annual contains these selections from my diary and my personal photograph album. But let me tell you the amazing explanation of how I, a mere mouse, was given such honor. Early one morning the Annual staff discovered me hurriedly trying to clean up some ink I had spilled. They pitched in to help cover up the evidence of my carelessness and found what I had been writ- ing. Curious, they read my feeble efforts and pro- nounced them magnificent. Only after many hours of persuasion did I finally permit the Annual staff to publish the chapters devoted to 1957-58 with the one condition that they would help me make them more complete. The contract was signed by all the staff and witnessed by school officials. The Annual staff and all of you students and fac- ulty have grandly carried out your part of the bargain by taking pictures and posing for the photographer and furnishing factual background material. Now, I humbly submit the 1957-58 section of my memoirs fslightly edited to avoid offending persons still livingb to show a mouse-eye view of Ithaca High School. The unexpurgated remainder of my memoirs cov- ering my life in this building from 1914 to 1961 are to be included in the cornerstone of the new school. IHS students of the year 2000 will CI hopel chuckle over the ancient escapades that went on behind the ivied walls of the old school. So, now you see how my mouse memoirs became the 1958 Annual. Editor's note: We are deeply grateful for these contributions. Without them, there would have been no 1958 Annual. At last, his old family motto has proved true: Rodcntis ad infinitum-sic Semper homo sapiens. 4
