The 1936 edition of the Little Red Griddersu will long he remembered for the tight and drive they displayed on the field. Outweighed in nearly every game, they managed to start the season with six wins in which they rolled up 190 points and blanked each opponent. In the last three games, however, the Ithacans were the victims of had breaks. Fumbles and intercepted passes proved costly as the eleven tied Bingo, and was lwarely beaten hy UVE and Elmira. VVith only one veteran, Charlie Magnning, returning, he was forced to mould a team from a hunch of green and inexperienced playersg however, things turned out better than was expected. Miken Nicholas, just up from Junior High, developed rapidly into a sharp-shooting forward to pair up with Rooster Fauls in the fore-court, while Al Schaufler and Gerry Courtney proved welcome additions from other schools. Led by Captain Stonewall Jackson, the Ithaca High School five won seven games from some first-rate teams, including a win over the Cornell Frosh. Although the team will feel the loss of Captain Jackson, 'fEmmy'l Malone and Bud Boochever, there will be plenty of material left for a championship team next year. Everything pointed to a good year and a heavy schedule of fifteen games had been arranged. However, the high spirits were considerably dampened when unseasonalwle weather permitted only four of the games to be played. Several of the veterans were outstanding. Particularly notable was the work of Captain Bill Reed, playing his fourth year for the Little Red . VVoody Asai, jack Young, and Glen Allen also showed excellent form on the rink. There are also some first-year men who deserve a great deal of credit. Among these are Kermit Kruse, the team's high scorer, and Vincent Campbell. This year's team set a precedent by having a banquet at the end of the season. Coach Crosby awarded letters to the following men: Captain Bill Reed, Manager Lyon, Campbell, Allen, Young, Asai, Perialas, Sullivan, Perkins, Reed, Kruse, Laubengayer, Santos, and Mount. Jack Young was elected captain for the coming season. Be- hind some excellent work by the battery of Chapin, Captain George Hagin, and Daghita, the team came out on the long end of the score in games with the Cornell Frosh, Watkins, En- dicott, and Cook Academy. With eleven lettermen back, there is no dearth of material this season, but the places of Timmer McNamara, and Breeds Mc- Cauley are hard to fill. Lettermen playing this year are Daghita, Chapin, Fauls, Spencer, Parr, Lattin, Connors, Kenjerska, Sullivan, and Ferris. ..79.,y7M TRACK Coach-MR. JOSEPH TATASCIHRE Captain-W1L1.mM JOHNSON MdMHg91'X-Cill. U MBU s CAPAonossr, LEoNARu KASSMAN Coach Tatascore's trackmen are facing a heavy schedule this season. Although nearly all of last year's opponents and at least one new team, Elmira, are facing the Ithacans, they hope to come through in championship form. Among those missing from last year's team are: 1937 Captain Saccucci and Henri johnson. The returning lettermen are Bill johnson, captaing Stutz, Capagrossi, Nemes, Allen, Botsford, Meiczinger, VanOrman, Szabo, Alby, Boochever, and Thomas. Seventy Above: Mintz, Love, Boochever, Nemes, Dye, Fricke, Pearson. Below: Tyler, Slade, Dixon, Vida, Clark, Reed, Knudson, Hardenburg, Boyle, Knowles, Grinnell. GOLF Coarh-MR. Armaar MEYN Captain-KENNETH REED Manager-GILTNER KNUDSON Although the golf team is comparatively new in Ithaca High, it has already done much to add to the glory and fame of the school. The golfers, under the supervision of Coach Meyn, have won two consecutive Southern Tier team championships and have also done exception- ally well in the individual sectional contests. Last season in this contest, the first four men were all Ithacans-Kenneth Reed, Adam Bucci, Charles Boyle, and Charles MacMurray. In 1935 John Vida carried off the crown. With most of last year's team returning, the 1937 ag- gregation should be destined for great things. Seventy-one TENNIS C0dFh-MR. RICHARD CRos1sY Manager-R1cuARn FRICKE One of the most successful sports in recent years has been tennis. The members of the team are aiming at their fourth consecutive, undefeated season this spring. Not only do Coach Crosby's proteges have a record of seventeen straight victories, but also to their credit are two individual Southern Tier Cham- pionships, won by Ken Jolly, in 1935 and 19363 one double championship, won by Clark and Nemes in 1936, and the 1936 Southern Tier Championship. This year the team is without Ken Jolly and Jim Clark, but Bud Boochever, Ned Pearson and john Nemes are left to carry on the winning tradition.
