IJC encompasses all these moods and countless others. The spirit of friendship and the caring attitude of the instructors adds a truly happy and friendly mood to the campus. Benjamin has been president of Itawamba Junior College since }uly 1, 1972. Before coming to I|C he was science teacher and high school principal at Indianola, as well as high school principal and assistant superintendent of schools in Greenwood. He is a graduate of Hur- ricane High School in Pontotoc County. From the University of Mississippi he has received the Bachelor of Arts, Master of Education, and Master of Science degrees, and in 1977 he received his Doctorate in Education. Dr. Benjamin is responsible for the facelift of the campus, because of his institution of the long-range planning for the cam- pus ' new facilities. As IJC ' s third president, he completes his first decade of service to the junior college. The students, staff and faculty all are aware of the growth, progress, and enrichment from his years in office. We know he is there at the football games far away, the basketball games on those cold nights when we stayed home, the theatre department ' s plays, and at the music department ' s concerts. We appreciate his support for us, and he will always be a special part of IjC. 20 Instruction (Left) HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Dr. Benjamin! With a blend of sophomore experience and freshmen raw talent, our Indians ran and tackled their way to a fine 7-3 record. After an opening 8-7 win against Hinds, and another victory over East Mississippi, IJC was handed its first loss of the season by Mississippi Delta, 35-14. Delta finished behind Holmes in the north half conference standings. After a victory over Southwest, Itawamba met up with Holmes, and was soundly defeated, 30-7. The Indians then reeled off four victories in a row, including an exciting 25-22 victory over Northwest and a 49-0 Halloween romp over Coahoma. The season ended with a disappointing 21-14 loss to Jones Junior College who ended the season with the best record in the state. Congratulations on a fine season, Indians! They have been two of the best years of my life. I have widened my circle of friends and felt a real sense of belonging. In working with the yearbook this year, I would like to thank the people on the staff of the Mirror. Somehow they overlooked my inexperience and together we worked as a team to bring this book to you. Thanks to Donna, Pat and Carol for their leadership and zany sense of humor. (File them under D .) It has been a different, but rewarding experience editing this book. We hope that through the Mirror we have been able to convey many of the moods of IJC — the moods of a growing college. Thro ugh the years I ' ll treasure the memories of IJC. The people I ' ll always remember, think of often, and pray for.
