Charles Dickens 15 The Itawamba Junior College Department of Speech and Drama presents ' ' Sabrina Fair and ' ' Snow White and Rose Red 16 17 Groups and Speakers Extend the Scope of Student Interest A wide range of groups and speakers enlightened and entertained the Itawamba Junior College Student Body. On November 14, Steamboat Man! (Mark Twain on the Mississippi) was presented in Sheffield Auditorium. The Spanish Club and the Modern Language Department presented famous Spanish guitarist, Ron Hudson. The Group from Ole Miss provided entertainment for the annual IJC beauty revue. The music for the homecoming dance was presented by PaPa Joe and Riverboat from New Orleans. The students and faculty were delighted by Grady Nutt ' s unique brand of humor, wit, and wisdom. Rev. Perry Tanksley of Clinton, Mississippi provided the inspiration for Religious Emphasis Week. Each of these was provided to extend the outlook of the student beyond the classroom. This was the result of excellent coaching, end- less hours of practice, and most of all — teamwork. Responsible for organizing the Indians into a winning football team was the leadership of the coaches and the boys themselves. 1974 Indians — we salute you! It is the combination of these diverse personalities that makes the game what it is. The excitement of winning, the disappointment of losing, that certain charisma which one associates with the game centers solely around the people involved — from the most inconspicuous coke- seller to the most obnoxious drunk in the stands to the star quarterback of the team. There is a strong and nec- essary dependency among these individuals, as no one group stands alone. David Johnson — Guard And so it ' s with this thought in mind that the follow ing photoessay unfolds. In no way is it meant to pro- mote fooball as the sport of IJC. It is meant to be representative of the individuals involved in any sport: the coaches and athletes appear as actors; the spectators, band, and cheerleaders, much as the audience. Or is it, perhaps, the other way around? The stage is now set and you can, if you ' d like, decide for yourself. It was the first year for the Indians to win more than 4 games in a row and more than 6 games in a season. Cheer- leaders were busy making signs and more signs, clubs and classes were building floats, and the mighty Indians were preparing for the game with Northwest. Almost unexpectedly the big day came. There were last minute preparations, the parade, the reception, the alumni banquet and finally — the game! All eyes were on cen- terfield as the homecoming court approached their positions and the band played Autumn Leaves. The announcer introduced Kim Stanley — Tupelo Campus maid, Beverly Young - Freshman maid, Kathy Wardlay -Sophomore maid and for the grand finale — Mr. Benjamin crowned Debbie Mayfield, football queen, and Cathy George, homecoming queen. A traditiomal IJC homecoming was climaxed with a 20-7 victory before a packed stadium. Home- coming day ended with many students still dancing to the music of Papa Joe and Riverboat. Neither quality hindered the Indians as they made every sec- ond of each game count. The Indians show ed confidence and never gave up until they were on top. Only two sophomores, Tommy Armstrong — Shannon, and Wayne Goree — Shannon, returned for the Indians. Coach Billy Caples handled this part of the program. The Indian- ettes started the season with a victory and kept the ball bouncing. Time after time the Indianettes hustled to a vic- tory with scores to reflect their efforts. The Indianettes ' line — up includes: Belinda Mask — S. Toothers — the world. Years from now we ' ll look back What will we remember most vividly? A special friend ... a certain teacher ... A hard course ... an unexpected grade ... or A noisy student center . . . quiet times . . . An arousing ballgame . . .
