A teacher is a rare breed of person that ' s interested in the future generations. He could probably be making more money elsewhere and could be much happier, too. Yet, for some reason, he ' s now making you miserable. More often than not, you end up with a teacher that walks into the classroom saying, For tomorrow, read the next 20 pages and be prepared for a test. Oh sure, some teachers aren ' t so great, but more of them are okay — real friends. Every now and then you get one that gives A ' s and can see your point of view. MRS. MARIAN ABEL Music MR. The Indians played some really tough teams, but they showed up very well and the games were close. The Indians ended the season with a 7-4 record. The team had one non-conference game with Amory of the Little Ten conference. The Indians played one of the best games of the season, but were defeated. All-conference honors went to Robert Clay, Quarterback; Bill Jamieson, Tackle; Larry Walton, Guard and Ricky West, Half- back, Ross Hankins, Halfback and Jackie Strange, Fullback received Honorable recognition. Although our record may not be the best we ever had, we all know the Indians always fought hard and long. Usually when beaten, the games were only by a few points. The teams we played knew they were fighting one of the toughest battles ever. They will probably never forget the fight the Indians gave them. For the first time, the Indians journeyed to the Cleveland Lions Bowl at Delta State College to play the Leland Cubs. In the last few minutes of the ballgame, the Cubs managed to squeeze by the Indi- ans 12-7. Receiving awards for this game were Larry Walton, Most Valuable Lineman, and Robert Clay Most Valuable Back. Win or lose — THE lAHS INDIANS ARE THE BEST!! Busy — Busy — Busy — that ' s the way to describe the lAHS cheerleaders. Making signs, planning pep rallies, decorating the football field, learning new cheers, and most of all keeping up school spirit are some of the activities that keep them busy. Stephanie, Betty, Debbie, and Susan attended camp this summer where they received 3 outstanding and 2 excellent ribbons. They say Go Indians! 149 lAHS Homecoming Football Queen STEPHANIE BOYD Homecoming Queen MITZI ANTHONY 150 A Homecoming Maids JUNIOR MAID Debbie Haynes SOPHOMORE MAID Betty Walton 151 152 For the first time, the Homecoming ceremony for lAHS was separate from the IJC ceremony. lAHS took on full responsibility and preparation. The Student Council decorated the Student Center for the big 1970 fling after the game, cheerleaders with the help of substitutes painted signs saying . Beat the Tigers, Go Indians Fight, Homecoming 1970, and many more, the royalty practiced with the band to make sure no one would mess up on the REAL thing, the band had to learn their routine carrying out the theme of lAHS Indians, the teachers had to supervise practices and miss a few 7th period classes. Substitute cheerleaders had to polish up on their cheers and the football team practiced long hours to defend their title in the conference. Spirit rose throughout the pep rally held Friday and the band played on — Mist- ing rain dampened all the excitement and plans, but the rain stopped, leaving the air chilly and just right for a football game and the 1970 Homecoming. • • • • i ■Hkfv ♦ • • JC 1 W HH V. w M Si- ' F IL ■ i flHI 153 A TEAM, (L to R): Coach League, Danny Johnson, Elton Winston, Robert Clay, Robert Shumpert, Dab Ferguson, Jerry Senter, Larry Brooks, Bobby Moses, Freddy Christian — Manager. Speaking Contest Winners 207 The Christmas season came and went. Extra holidays were enjoyed due to snow and icy roads. Ending the not-so-good season, lAHS basketballers won a 3rd place trophy at the Burnsville tournaments. Track, baseball, and spring football made up the other athletics. The Juniors were proud of their class rings and the sophomores look forward to their day. Seniors presented the play, Professor, How Could You? and also received their caps and gowns. The office assistants helped get everything ready for graduation. Music Club pro- grams were given and the gang got together; otherwise, just being involved summed up the second half of the 1970-71 school term. After many years of hard work and dedication, graduation day brought another class through the doors of lAHS — the Senior Class of 1971.
