I ( .„ mi k - m THE HISTORY OF THE ITAWAMBA JUNIOR COLLEGE AND AGRICULTURAL HIGH SCHOOL The Itawamba County Agricultural High School was established in 1920 and has been in successful operation since 192 L It is one of the largest Agri- cultural High Schools in the State of Mississippi, being fully accredited by the State Accrediting Commission. In 1941 the Trustees of the Agricultural High School extended the curriculum to include College Freshman and Sophomore work. Due to the war this work had to be post-poned until 1948. In February 1948, the counties of Itawamba, Monroe, and Lee harmoniously agreed to form the Itawamba Junior College district. These counties help to support the Itawamba Junior College. The first class of Freshm.an College work entered school on September 1, 1948 with an enrollment of 115 Freshman class stu- dents. This class has been very cooperative in all school activities and the school has made much progress in its first year of Junior College work. The College plans to include Sophomore work for the 1949-1950 semesters, and the Freshman class of 1948-1949 will be the first graduates of Itawamba Junior College in 1950. The College together with the High School students have made m.uch progress in the development of the Itawamba Junior College and Agricultural High School. The Junior College Department has 225 veterans enrolled in Trades Training terminal courses. This department in Rough Car- penter IS 100 in Automotive Mechanics. THE PRESIDENT AND HIS MESSAGE Mr. Philip A. Sheffield I feel that the year of 1948-49 has been a very successful one. Much progress has been made. Through your loyalty and cooperation many things have been done. I sincerely hope that the Itavv ' amba Junior College and Agricultural High School will continue to make progress. J. S. Crubaugh, Dean I congratulate the annual staff and its sponsors for the excellent work in publishing the Mirror. I wish to thank the students of Itawamba Junior College and Agricultural High School for your friendliness, wholesome spirit, and splendid cooperation in making the 1948-49 school year a successful one.
