' sENnoRs 'f?fh ' R70- 'P QLASS HIQTQRX Eleven years ago a group of little six-year-olds came to Italy Grammar School for the first time. At that time we could not even read or write or do any of the necessary things in the way of learn- ing. When we look back at the first-graders this year, we can hard- ly believe that we were once like them. We have certainly cane a long wayl We owe our good start to Miss Margaret Calvin, who was our teacher in the first grade. She had a hard time getting scme of us started, and had to form an A Class and a B Class. However, I think we will all agree that she made a success. AS second-graders, we felt very high and mighty, because there were some still younger than we were. Our teacher that year was Miss Reba Smith. We lost two or three of our class members but we also gained some new ones to make up for than. ' So we struggled on through the third and fourth grades, with Miss Wilson and Miss Brown as our teachers. We got several new pupils during those two grades, some of whom are still with us, and are old home folks. We had two or three love affairs in the fourth grade. Finally, in a seemingly short ti.rne, we found wr- selves in the fifth grade and upstairs in grammar school. We be- gan to feel that we were really getting somewhere then. Our teach- ers for the three last years in grammar school were Mr. G. H, Kirby, Mrs. Louise Polson, Miss Ruby Dean Barton, Miss Irma Gordon, and again Miss Wilson, who had beccxne Mrs. Wood. We enjoyed school most of the time, although we wouldn't have admitted it for the world. We had parties and plays, which we liked. The times we enjoyed most, I think, were the days just before Christmas and the week before school turned out for the summer. These were the most exciting days of all, because rout- ine regulations were lifted a little. When we were in the sixth grade, the grading was changed from the A and B system to the S and U system. Most of us were glad that happened, since, after that, we could make, a C and still tet an S , However, some of us had a hard time doing that well.
