R ' of the Beginning When Istrouma High School opened in 1920, Baton Rouge was just beginning its industrial growth. Istrouma High School, a new school in a city beginning to boom, was located on Erie Street in the heart of the industrial section. During these years the two predominant high schools were Istrouma and Baton Rouge School. Located on opposite sides of town, each had its own activities. Baton Rouge High had been around for many years and had already become an established school. They had a football team, a coach, and an assistant, Ellis A. Brown, while Istrouma was still struggling for recognition. In 1935 Ellis Brown, affectionally known as Little Fuzz, decided to cross town and join the Istrouma Reservation. His efforts helped Istrouma advance in its up- ward climb. His leadership guided Istrouma through its continued development. 2

Brown, Clyde Lindsey, and Melvin Geller. A
