A long tlme ago the good sh1p Fovty Nznm was sent or an lmportant m1ss1on to the Newanlan Arch1pelago a chaln of lslands 1n the Jeffersonlan sea I the Captaln and mv crew pendxng an erup from the face of the globe were ordered to rescue everybody on the archxpelago and deposlt them safely on Graduatlon Isle Fherefore 1n September of 1936 the shlp set sall for and soon reached ts flrst dest1nat1on Neophyte Isle Here we were confronted by an amaz1ng Slght The lsle apparently mhablted only by chll dren was ln great tumult Queen Parkex summonlng forth all her grace was yaln ly trung to subdue hel subyects Confu slon however relgned supreme Joan Freakle Frledler and Leta WQISS hold mg hands Jltterbugged bllssfullx around llttle DIXIE Kal1n w h1le the latter clutched a baseball bat and swung It ylclouslv oven her head Al o on one s1de of the small lsland Leonard Gessner leamng happlly agaxnst a tree drank f1om a hydrogen peroxlde bottle the contents of whlch were eventually to go to hls head Whlle Barb Cohen struggled to pull the wool over hls eyes Nearby Charles Barber Dlcks chuckllngly proceeded to trlm Joan Pocahontas Smlth s plgtaxls whlle she obl1v1ous to everythlng stared dreamxly out to sea thlnklng of her future love The dlsturbance on the other s1de of the lsland was enough to burst our eardrums Chlld prodlgles Herman Kohlmeyer and Loeber Landau were argulng over Mother Gooses theory of relatlves whlle Joan Hlrsch eatlng a Hershey bar trled to drawl a word 1n edgewxse After much effort however we flnally managed to get these chlldren aboard and reembark After travellng for what seemed to be a year we reached a lonely lsland that was apparently unlnhablted Just as we were about to bypass It though a pretty chlld came runnmg up to us SChYV1HglI'lg her llttle hand It was Joan eatmg her last DIQCQ of P1e Stopplng brlefly to plck her up we proceeded to our next destlna tlon Verblle Island where we took on board Betty Meyer who was st1ll trylng the next 1sle we easlly rescued Eve Gold man whom we found demurely playlng wlth her Red Cross doll and Seymour Welss valnly trylng to attract her atten tlon by quotlng Mother Gooses VQTSIOH of Shakespeare The lnhabltants of our next stop alas proxed d1ff1cult to reason wlth Chuck Taylor clrcled the lsland on h1s Taylor Tot and contlnually evaded us Moreover VI Irv LOUISE Wllson was puttlng on a one woman show for Betty Cloutman and Shlrlex Sawl and slmply refused to be ln telrupted But after much pleadmg we managed to coax them on board A t10plC3l storm halted our approach to South Sea Isle lndeed It was only after much trouble that we fmally got close enough to plCk up Jane Wy nn whom we found runnmg around IH a grass sklrt THE PIONEER JUNE 1949 33 .
