SPAULDING Vice President KAYE FAYE KENNEDY Reporter BENNIE LEROY MURPHN Senior Class Histogf 1966 L ' OnSeptember 3, 1954, fourteen energetic first graders prepared for their blast-off into space from the Isabel Launching Site, in their space ship, the Tiger. They were: Leslie Baucum, Linda Boyd, Janice Burenheide, Robert Bush, Leslie Dudrey, Jimmie Don Fischer, Alice Freeman, Paula Ford, Jimmie Alice Haas, Georgine Beshears, and Cynthia Wiggins. Myrna Stuckey soon joined us. Mrs. Violet Conner was there to guide us through the first two years of confusion. The second year, we had just got off the ground when we had to make a sudden stop on cloud nine, and gained Wayne Sacket and Cathy Hall. We also lost Leslie Dudrey. In September, 1956, we landed on Venus, where Mrs. Hazel Bishop took over our guidance, and we picked up a new astronaut, Peggy Jamison. During our fourth year of travel, we stopped at Mars where Leslie Baucum, Rodger House, and Claude Romine decided to leave our journey. We gained Richard Countryman which brought our total to a lucky thirteen. In September, 1958, we boarded the Tiger again and stopped on Jupiter, where we gained a new pilot, Ralph McCrady, and two new passengers, Kenneth and Karen Kennedy. Our sixth year of travel was our half-way point, half of our journey was behind us, yet half ahead of us too. We had no gains or losses during this year. In 1960, Mr. McCrady finally gave up ontrying to repairour rocket's engine, and Mrs. Freeman came along to guide us the next two years. Peggy Jamison and Janice Burenheide got tired of waiting for the repair job and left, but Shannon McDowell joined our happy crew. As we journeyed closer to the sun, we foimd our eighth year of travel very exciting. Shannon McDowell couldn't get used to riding in the rocket so Bennie Murphy took her place. Those graduating as eight-year navigators were: Linda Boyd, Bob Bush, Richard Countryman, Jim Fischer, Alice Freeman, Nancy Gibson, Jimmie Alice Haas, Vernon Harding, Kar e n Ke nn e dy, Kenneth Kennedy, Bernard Laverentz, Bennie Murphy, Carl Wexphal, and Cynthia Wiggins. As we began om' final four years of travel, we found that our rocket was getting a bit rusty and wasn't accelerating as fast as it should. We traded it in on a new purple and white rocket which we named the Viking. We lost Jimmie Alice Haas and Richard Countryman, and gained A lic e Ford . Miss McElfresh piloted our rocket. In September, 1963, we made our final stop on Pluto before getting to our destination, the sun. Alice Freeman and Cynthia Wiggins left and we gained Giles Spaulding to bring the total to an even dozen. Mr. Scales filled the position of pilot. , ' We same twelve astronauts found our eleventh year of travel very fascinating. We neither lost nor gained anyone, probably because everyone was too excited in reaching our destination. Mrs. Hollar and Mr. Ewing took the pilot place of Mr. Scales. Upon reaching the sun, Dayle Reed hopped on board to be a member of our crew. This brought our total back to our lucky thirteen. Mr. Denno and Mrs. Armstrong were appointed as the two guides to finish our very successful trip. The members of the Senior class are: Linda Boyd, Bob Bush, Jim Fischer, A lice Ford, Nancy Gibson, Vernon Harding, Karen Kennedy, Ken Kennedy, Bernard Laverentz, Bennie Murphy, Dayle Reed, Giles Spaulding, and Carl Westphal. ' On May 24, we will be leaving for our final journey together as a class to Tennessee. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Bartel will be added to our crew. We seniors would like to express our thanks to everyone for making this trip possible. Thank you. Now we are pretending, going through our looking glass, down a cabbage root, as Alice did in Wonderland, into times past. We came to a small zoo. In the cage marked one we found Panda Bears! ! The big bear is Mrs. Conner, our first grade teacher. Her best climbers are: Roger Banks, Georgine Besheres, Max Dauner, Joe Evans, Ken Fischer, Barbara Freeman, john Hamm, Larry Heublein, Lloyd Irwin, Barbara Mease, Rita Poland, Linda Robinson, jean Strong, Delpha Wehling, Kent Wheeler, and Bill Murphy. In the second cage we found baby co yote s, which were all the same as-the panda bears except joe Evans and Linda Robinson. Mrs. Conner is still the pack leader. Enough of that cage, what's next? Deer. Quiet, subdued animals. We are now third graders. Our lead deer is Mrs. Singleton. We have three new friends, in this cage: Joyce Brooks, Lorraine Wehling, and Ronald Freeman. But while gaining these new friends, we also lost these old friends: Max Dauner, Georgene Besheres, Lloyd Irwin, and Bill Murphy. As we land in the fourth cage, Kangaroos, we see we have gained David Bohannon, Rodger House, and Claude Romine. We are now in the sheltering pouch of Mrs. Bishop. ' In the fifth cage we found raccoons, who were full of mischief. Our teacher was Mr. McCrady. We lost Ronald Freeman but gained Nancy Willinger to take his place. In our sixth cage we found hibernating bears. We gained one new bear, Karen Rolf. Mrs. Rom ine prodded us into activity. ' Our seventh cage was full of oxen working, barely stopping for water. Teammaster, with a whip in her hand is Mrs. Magnison. The final cage in this part of the zoo. Wonder what is in it? Fox. Sly, crafty, wise animals, full of experience. Head vixen is Mrs. Fre eman. She is leading Roger Banks, David Boh annon, Ke n Fischer, Barbara Freeman, john Hamm, Larry Heublein, Rodger House, Barbara Mease, Louise Oller, Rita Poland, Karen Rolf, Claude Romine, Jean Strong, Delpha Wehling, Lorraine Wehling, Kent Wheeler, and Nancy Willinger in what appears to be some sort of grad- uation exercise. In the Freshman cage was monkeys, chimpanzees, the clowns of the jungle. The same old faces ex- cept for Barbara Freeman who was lost when the door closed behind us. Mrs. Trantham was the monkey trainer. ' W The Sophomore year found us as a Zebra Herd. N Delpha Wehling had left us, but we gained Boyd Vest for awhile then he jumped the fence again to seek more lush fields. Our herd trainers were Mrs. Trantham and Mr. Lenkner. ' Our junior cage the same herd of Zebras appearing as Giraffes. The herd keepers were Mrs. Trantham and Mr. Bartel. The lion cage represented our Senior year. We found that we had lost Lo rra in e Wehling Brown and Louise Oller, but we had gained Mrs. Jean Weir. Mrs. Trantham and Mr. Bartel were our den cleaners. Mr . Newby, trainer, put the following graduating Seniors through their paces: Ro g er Bank s, David Bohannon, Ken Fischer, John Hamm, Larry Heublein, Rodger House, Barbara Mease, Karen Rolf, Rita Poland, Claude Romine, jean Strong, Kent Wheeler, Nancy Willinger, and jean Weir. Zookeepers or principals, have been: Mr. Smith, Mr. Brooks, Mr. Campbell, Mr. Sears, and Mr. Newby. , Students that have attended all their years at IHS were: Roger Banks, Ken Fischer, john Hamm, Larry Heublein, Rodger House, Barbara Mease, Rita Poland, Claude Romine, jean Strong, and Kent Wheeler. A trip to a zoo is nice. It's over now, so its back up the cabbage root into our looking glass to now, and the thoughts of the fut'ure.
