BAND NEWS After a two weeks vacation from summer band concerts, the band began its regular routine in school. Band practice was held Tuesday evenings from 7:45 to 9215 and Friday afternoons from lZ:45 to 2:00 . The band was composed of the following: On the clarinets, Lyla Wiese, Virginia Anthony, Ardith Olson, Mary Jensen, Marilyn Simpson, Lorraine Smith, and Sally Steenhusen: on the saxophone section, Dixie Larson, Gloria Thompson, Kenneth Krueger, Richard Wetzel and Nedric Poynter, blaring out on their cornets were Jim McMahon, Milton Barry, Norman Campbell, and Arlo Barton: keeping the trombone section from rusting were Kay McMahon and Peter Steenhusen: keeping the baritones in tune were Richard McMahon and Larry Richards: blowing the big bass horns were Ladell Wiese, Howard Kuchel, and George Steenhusen. The only alto horn player was Donnabelle Jensen Keeping the band in time, with drums, were Beverly Thompson, bass drum: Verlee Petersen, cyrnbals: David Piper, Eleanore Shipp and Georgene Crouch, snare drum. There was also a group of beginners that came into the band, who were a great asset. The band played a number of new pieces, including overtures, waltzes, popular numbers, and marches. During the school year, the band gave a concert every six weeks, performed at a few P. T. A. meetings and also participated in a music contest. The band wishes to thank Mr. Draheirn, the director, for improving the band and putting forth so much time and patience. The students and the general public appreciate his excellent leadership.
