“BASEBALL Setpember 5, Irwin journeyed to Westphalia for their first defeat. Irwin achieved its only score in the first Westphalia made its wiining score in the first of the seventh inning. Mork was on the mound for Irwin and Allen Juhl was behind the plate. The final score was Westphalia Z, Irwin I. The following Tuesday, Elkhorn defeated Irwin on Irwin's diamond. Irwin was in the lead until the seventh inning, when Elkhorn ran in nine scores to win the game with a score of 13 to 10. Irwin met Westphalia, September 16, on the home diamond. Mork, pitching for Irwin, gave only five hits, while Wageman, Westphalia's pitcher, gave eight hits, but the final score was 9 to 4 in favor of Westphalia. September Z0, the Irwin ball club journeyed to Charter Oak to meet another club of great power, Ute. The opponent started with a bang only to slow down after the first inning. Irwin came back in the last few inn- ings, too late to save the game. Mork struck out twelve men and allowed seven hits. Jim McMahon made the best hit for Irwin with a triple. The last three games of the season were played with Kirkman on our own diamond, Irwin winning the first game 9 to 5 with Mork pitching and Allen J'uhl behind the plate. The second game was on October 3, where Irwin lost to Kirkman 6 to 5. The third game, October 10, was very wild in the first inning, allowing Kirkman a home run. After this, Irwin started some fireworks and made five scores, with Buthman driving in three runs. Mork, of Irwin, pitched a very fine game in which the score was 8 to 5, in favor of Irwin.
